JENKINTOWN, PA—Today's Manor College Athletics Questions and Answers during COVID-19 is with Women's Volleyball Head Coach Christina Floyd.

Floyd is the newest member of the Blue Jays' Athletics coaching staff.  The article announcing her hiring can be read at this link.

Question: Do you have any tips for working from home?

Floyd: "A tip that I have for those working from home is to dedicate a space (or two) to be your 'office' or 'workspace'. Having a designated area that you are specifically using for work can help eliminate distractions and acts as if you are 'going to the office or the classroom' since we aren't able to actually go to work/school. Whenever the weather is nice I'm able to go to my backyard and work out there for a while, the change of scenery and fresh air definitely help. Having those restrictions allows my home to remain my home instead of being forced to use it as my office due to the lockdown."

Question: How are you connecting with your student-athletes?

Floyd: "I reach out to my student-athletes at least once a week, usually by email, just to give them updates on the volleyball program, and to make sure that they are doing well in their classes. I have found myself doing wellness check-ins just to make sure they are doing alright during the pandemic. It's mainly just words of encouragement to keep them optimistic and hopeful during this time."

Question: Do you have any anecdotes/stories on how you are moving forward during COVID-19?

Floyd: "At the moment I am just taking it day by day. Since so much is still unknown, and worrying about it only brings more stress and anxiety, I follow my daily routine and exercise regime so that I can eliminate moments of boredom. I've also been focusing on one area of the house (this week is the garage) and sorting through what's in there and making piles of things to donate or throw away. Being productive definitely helps, but I do enjoy the quality time I am spending with my family, even if it is just relaxing with them and watching a movie."

Question: What is your outlook on the upcoming Women's Volleyball season?

Floyd: "I'm looking forward to our 2020 season as a huge adjustment for the program.  For the players that are returning, having to experience a new coaching style, and new players getting accustomed to being a part of a college team, there is definitely some adjusting that's going to happen even on my end.  The talent of each player is honestly what has impressed me the most.  Some have never played competitively but have expressed how excited they are to be a part of the team, and, their willingness to learn and become better is the type of athlete I enjoy coaching; many have experience of playing almost every position, so once we take our first week of practice understanding each other's strengths and bettering our weaknesses, then I truly believe that this team can be one of the best in our conference.

We also have a pretty loaded schedule with 20-plus games, so there's plenty of opportunities for us to get better and to just enjoy being a part of a great sport.  My goal overall is for each of my players to have a great season and maybe even set a couple of records along the way."
