MANOR COLLEGE’S THOMPSON SETS SCHOOL MEN’S OUTDOOR 200-METER TRACK RECORD IN THE SECOND DAY OF THE DANNY CURRAN INVITATIONAL

CHESTER, PA—The Manor College Men's Outdoor Track and Field team competed in its second meet of the regular season on the second day of the Danny Curran Invitational at Leslie C. Quick Jr Stadium, hosted by the NCAA Division III Widener University Pride.

Freshman Phaizon Thompson (Philadelphia, PA/Benjamin Franklin) won the 11th heat of the 100 meters with a time of 11.84.  He ran the second-fastest 100-meter time by a Manor Men's Track and Field runner, missing Isaiah Leonard's mark by 0.03 (11.81 at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Invitational on April 30, 2022), and won his heat by an Invitational-best 0.56.  

Thompson won the 13th heat of the 200 in his event debut with a Manor outdoor record time of 23.98.   He broke Leonard's record by 0.90 (24.88 at the USCAA Track and Field Invitational on April 30, 2022), and won his heat by 1.02.  Thompson's 1.02 margin of victory in this heat was the second-best at this Invitational (1.34).  He also became the first Manor Outdoor Track and Field athlete to win the 100- and 200-meter heats in the same meet.

Thompson's 100- and 200-meter times automatically qualify him for the second day of the USCAA Track and Field Championship on April 27 at NCAA Division II American International College, in Springfield, Massachusetts, hosted by Hampshire.  The USCAA Track and Field Championship qualifying times for the 100- and 200-meters are 12.00 and 25.00, respectively.

There were not any team scores at this Invitational.

There were 33 schools and clubs/organizations competing in this Invitational, including NCAA (Divisions I, II, and III) and NJCAA (Division III).  Pennsylvania State University-Scranton was the other USCAA member competing at this Invitational

Next Meet: Manor is scheduled to compete in the second day of the Ursinus College Track and Field Invitational, hosted by the NCAA Division III Bears, at Patterson Field, at 10 a.m., on Saturday, April 6 in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.
