JENKINTOWN, PA—The seventh-ranked United Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I Manor College Blue Jay seniors Maximo Chavez (defenseman) (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) and Abubakkar Bangura (midfielder) (Philadelphia, PA/John Bartram) were recognized on Senior Day before its regular season home finale versus the thirteenth-ranked USCAA Division II Christendom College Crusaders.
Through October 23, the co-captain started and played in all sixteen matches this season and is one of four Blue Jays this season to accomplish this. Chavez is second on the team with six goals scored and points with 15. He is among team leaders with three assists and overall shots with 26 and shots on goal with 19. Chavez leads the team this season with two penalty kick goals. He contributed his first collegiate career multi-goal match in a shutout win at Patrick Henry College on October 19. He also contributed a multi-assist match in a win versus Harrisburg Area Community College on September 12, which was his second of his career.
Chavez started and played in all sixteen matches in 2023 and was one of two Blue Jays that season to accomplish that. He has played 35 consecutive matches, dating back to the 2022 season. Chavez was among team leaders in goals, assists, and points during the 2021 season. In his Manor career he has played 53 career matches (including 49 starts) and has scored 10 goals and contributed seven assists for 27 points.
His awards/honors include: 2023 Manor College Men's Soccer Coaches Award 2023, 2023 All-Eastern States Athletic Conference (ESAC) Men's Soccer Second Team, and 2021 and 2022 Manor College Brian Barry Awards for Men's Soccer.
Bangura made his 2024 season debut at Patrick Henry College on October 19 and contributed an assist. He was among 2023 team leaders with four goals and 10 points and 45 overall shots, including 24 shots on goal. Bangura contributed his first collegiate career multi-goal match in a win versus Williamson College of the Trades on October 26, 2023. His nine assists in 2022 led the Blue Jays and tied for the USCAA Division I Men's Soccer lead. Bangura was among 2022 team leaders in points with 11 and 24 overall shots, including 15 on goal He contributed his first multi-assist match in win versus Bucks County County Community College on September 29, 2022. Bangura played 31 career matches (including 30 starts). In his Manor career, he scored five goals and contributed 12 assists for 22 points.
His awards and honors include: 2023 All-ESAC Men's Soccer First Team, ESAC Fall 2022 and Fall 2023 Semester All-Academic Teams, and three Manor College Semester Dean's Lists (Spring 2024, Fall 2023, and Fall 2022).
