MANOR COLLEGE MEN’S SOCCER 2018 SEASON-IN-REVIEW

2017 Season: Manor College improved upon its 2016 overall win total and won its most games since 2013 when they were in Division III.  They finished 8-9-1 overall (1-4-0 NJCAA Region XIX Division I).

Returning Players: Manor returned the following players from the previous season: midfielder Ibrahim Abdelghani (Philadelphia, PA/Kensington); defenseman/midfielder Moussa Kanate (Philadelphia, PA/Fels); and defenseman Bill Freeman (Philadelphia, PA Academy Park), Turrell Gordon (Philadelphia, PA/Olney), Mason Maglio (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Upper Moreland), and Nicholas Martinez (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge).

2018 NJCAA 2017 Opponents' Overall Won-Loss Record (Percentage): 161-126-9 (0.557).

2018 NJCAA 2017 Division I Postseason Tournament Opponents (Date/s): Harcum (Region XIX) (Semifinals), Rowan College at Burlington County (September 30) (Region XIX) (Semifinals), and Mercer County (Region XIX) (Championship).

2018 Non-NJCAA 2017 Regular and Postseason Tournament Opponents (Date/s): Pennsylvania State University-Brandywine (USCAA Division II) (Championship).

2018 NJCAA 2017 Division III Postseason Tournament Opponents (Date/s.):

Raritan Valley Community College (September 4) (Region XIX), County College of Morris (September 8) (Region XIX), Rowan College at Burlington County (September 13) (Region XIX) (Semifinals), Montgomery County Community College (September 20) (Region XIX) (Semifinals), Bucks County Community College (September 25) (Region XIX) (Semifinals), Union County (Region XIX) (Runners-Up), Delaware County (October 2) (Region XIX), and Camden County (Region XIX) (Semifinals).

Altogether, the Blue Jays' 2018 schedule featured 12 of its 20 contests versus teams who qualified for the 2017 postseason.

Manor's 2018 opponents finished with a 94-95-10 overall won-loss record (0.498).

Success versus Division III: Manor did well versus NJCAA Division III schools (Harrisburg Area, Middlesex County, Montgomery County, Rartian Valley, and Rowan College at Gloucester County) this past season. They were 5-1-0 overall and outscored them 20 to eight.  The Blue Jays' 4-1 home win versus Raritan Valley on September 4 was also its first in the season series, breaking a five-match losing streak,

Manor Evens Record with Region XX: The Blue Jays season-opening 3-0 home victory versus Cecil College on August 26 improved its overall record versus Region XX to 4-4-0.

Success against Non-NJCAA Schools: The Blue Jays' 5-2 home win versus Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) member PSU-Lehigh Valley (September 15) and 2-2 double overtime road tie at PSU-Brandywine (September 1) improved its record versus non-NJCAA programs to 6-1-1 since 2008.  They outscored them 32 to eight with three shutouts during that time.

Series Winning Streaks: Manor continued its series success versus Harrisburg Area (14-0-0 since the 2005 season).  Manor has won six straight versus Montgomery County and are 6-1-1 since 2010.

Statistical Leaders: Six Blue Jays led the team with all 14 matches played: Abdelghani, Freeman, Maglio, freshman midfielders Amadou Kamagate (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) and Kelvin Siem (Upper Darby, PA/Absegami [NJ]), .and freshman midfielder/forward Therno Diallo (Philadelphia, PA/South Philadelphia).  Freeman, Kamagate and Siem started all 14 matches.  Siem led Manor in the following categories: goals (nine), and points (20). Kamagate paced the team with seven assists.  Siem and Kamagate led the Blue Jays in shots (42) shots on goal (30).  Freshman goalkeeper Aaron Chester (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) started and played in 12 matches.  He had a 2.86 goals against average.

Multiple-Goal Games: The following players contributed multiple-goal efforts:  Freshman midfielder/forward Julio Hernandez (Philadelphia, PA/Fels) (two goals) versus Raritan Valley (September 4), Siem (two) at Middlesex County (September 11), Kamagate (two) versus PSU-Lehigh Valley (September 15), Siem (two) at Lackawanna (September 22), and Siem and freshman midfielder/forward Preston Gray (Bristol, PA/Truman) (two each) at Harrisburg Area (October 13)  The last time two Blue Jays scored multiple goals in the same match was Arthur Greenwood and Eddy Rangel (also two each) at Harrisburg Area on October 1, 2016..

EPAC Athlete of the Week Award Winner: Siem was named Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) Athlete of the Week for the period, October 8-13.  He scored two first-half goals (on two first-half shots on goal), as the Blue Jays defeated Harrisburg Area, 8-0, on October 13.  At the time, it was his team-leading third multi-goal match of 2018 and fifth multi-point effort of the season (which he shares the team lead).

NJCAA Postseason Award Winners: Two Blue Jay freshman were voted to the NJCAA All-Region XIX Team by the region's head coaches: Siem (First Team) and defenseman Justin Dillon (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Towne Charter) (Second Team).

Postseason-Bound Opponents: The following Manor opponents qualified for NJCAA Region XIX Division I and III Postseason Tournaments: Harcum, Mercer County, Middlesex County, Montgomery County, Rowan College at Burlington County, Rowan College at Gloucester County, and Union County.  PSU-Brandywine and PSU-Lehigh Valley also qualified for the PSUAC Postseason Tournament.  Altogether, nine Blue Jay opponents qualified for the postseason.  Burlington County was the Region XIX Division II Postseason Tournament runners-up.  Brandywine won the PSUAC Men's Soccer Championship for the third straight season.  They went on to win its first United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II Men's Soccer National Championship.

Postseason Tournament-Bound Blue Jays: Manor's 8-0 victory at Harrisburg Area on October 13 clinched its first postseason tournament berth as a Division I program and first overall since 2013 when they were in Division III.  However, the Blue Jays lost to Harcum in the Region XIX Division I Postseason Tournament Quarterfinals on October 20, 5-1, at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.

Final 2018 Regular Season Record and Region XIX Finish: Manor finished the regular season 7-6-1 overall (0-4-0 in Region XIX Division I) under ninth-year head coach John Dempster.  The Blue Jays are 28-49-2 overall (2-20-0 in Region XIX Division I) since moving up to Division I in 2014.  Since 2014, Manor have been outscored 251 to 172 (shutout 21 times) and 98 to 15 (blanked eight times) in Region XIX Division I action.
