MANOR COLLEGE BASEBALL LOSES ROAD GAME VERSUS DELAWARE COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE

MEDIA, PA—National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Division III Delaware County Community College (1-8), scored five first inning runs and freshman starting pitcher Hunter Witten (1-3) pitched a complete game, striking out 12, as the Phantoms defeated the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Manor College Blue Jays (1-2), 7-2, in seven innings.

This contest was a rescheduled second game of a doubleheader from March 9 due to rain. 

Manor previously played Delaware County on the road on April 19, 2018 when the Blue Jays were NJCAA Region XIX Division III members.  They lost 20-13.

Delaware County scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by freshman first baseman Eric Engesser and freshman right fielder Michael Jenkins with none out. Freshman catcher Izaah Perocier's two-out, bases-clearing single scored the remaining runs.

Manor scored its first run with two out in the top of the second. Freshman third baseman Imanol Moronta (Philadelphia, PA/Community Academy of Philadelphia) doubled to left field. Freshman starting pitcher Juan Regalado (Philadelphia, PA) singled to center and advanced to second on the throw and Moronta advanced to third on the play.  Freshman first baseman Christopher Colletta (Philadelphia, PA/Bishop McDevitt) reached on a Miller fielding error, scoring Moronta on the play.

The Phantoms completed their scoring in the bottom of the second with two out on runners' fielder's choices by freshman third baseman Maximillian Curley and freshman center fielder Greg Palandro.  

The Blue Jays scored the final run in the top of the third.  Freshman left fielder Yerlad Duran's (Philadelphia, PA/Abraham Lincoln) reached on a Curley fielding error and stole second. Two batters later, freshman catcher Anthony Ortiz' (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Towne Charter) two-out single scored Duran and advanced to second on the throw.

Batting Leaders: Regalado singled and walked for Manor.

Palandro stole four bases, walked twice and scored two runs for Delaware County.  Perocier knocked in three runs and singled and walked once each.  Engesser singled, walked, and knocked in a run.

Pitching Leaders: Regalado (0-1) started and pitched three innings. Freshman Narsizo Rivera (Philadelphia, PA/Samuel Fels) finished the game for the Blue Jays, throwing three shutout innings, allowing zero hits, and striking out two.

In addition to pitching a complete game and striking out 12, Whitten allowed three singles and three walks. 

Season Series: Manor is 2-4 overall versus Delaware County (0-2 on the road).

Manor on the Road: The Blue Jays are 0-2 this season on the road.  Manor previously won a road game on April 14, 2019 when they defeated Bucks County Community College, 19-8, in game one of a doubleheader in Newtown, Pennsylvania.

Next Game: Manor hosts the Patrick Henry College Sentinels for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. at Alverthorpe Park in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.  This is the first meeting between the two schools.

Next Road Game: The Blue Jays travel to play the Central Pennsylvania College Knights (6-4 overall, 1-1 Eastern States Athletic Conference as of March 19) in its first ESAC doubleheader on Monday, April 1 at 1 p.m. at First National Bank Stadium on City Island in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  FNB Stadium is the home of the Harrisburg Senators, a Minor League Class AA Eastern League affiliate of the Major League Washington Nationals.  Manor previously played Central Pennsylvania on May 8, 2018 in its regular season finale at Lawnton Field in Lawnton, Pennsylvania.  The Blue Jays lost, 8-5, in its only series meeting.
