JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (8-1-1) junior forward Abubakarr Bangura's (Philadelphia, PA/John Bartram) scored his first collegiate goal and the defense limited National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Division III Montgomery County Community College (5-8-2) to six shots on goal as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I seventh-ranked Blue Jays shut out the Mustangs, 1-0.

The only goal of the match was when Blue Jay junior defenseman Gabriel Elliott's (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) pass around the six-yard line went Bangura in the middle of the 18.   Bangura's shot went into the upper right-hand corner of the net (36:13).   Montgomery County outshot Manor in the first half, eight (four on goal) to five (four on goal).

The Blue Jays outshot the Mustangs in the second half, seven (two on goal) to five (three on goal).  Montgomery County outshot Manor, 13 (seven on goal) to 12 (six on goal) for the match.

This was the Blue Jays' first win at home versus the Mustangs since October 7m 2014, which was the last time these schools faced each other at Manor.

Freshman goalkeeper Aiden Holman (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton) (8-1-1) registered his first collegiate shutout.

Fast Start: The Blue Jays are off to an 8-1-1 overall start this season after nine matches.  They were off to 10-0-0 starts in 2012 and 2013 when they later qualified for the NJCAA Region XIX Division III Men's Soccer Postseason Tournaments.

Holding onto the Halftime Lead: Manor is 4-0-0 overall (3-0-0 at home) when leading at halftime.  They have outscored their opponents 12 to four in the second half.  The Blue Jays have their opponents scoreless in the second half in eight out of 10 matches.

The Defense Rests (Again): Manor registered its first shutout of the season.  Their previous shutout was at home versus NJCAA Region XIX Division III Delaware County Community College, 4-0, on October 18, 2021.  The Blue Jays have posted seven 1-0 shutouts overall (five at home) since 2008.  This is their first 1-0 shutout since September 29, 2019 at home versus NJCAA Division III Harrisburg Area Community College.  The Blue Jays have limited opposing offenses to single-digit overall shots in eight of 10 matches this season.

Blue Jays' Holman among USCAA Division I Goalkeeping Leaders (Through October 18): Holman is second with 73 saves and 7.30 per match and a 0.830 save percentage in USCAA Division I.  He is third in minutes (810:00).  Holman is fifth in matches played (10) and starts (10) and in goals against average (1.50).

Eddie Fortescue Jr.'s Scoring Feats: Blue Jay junior midfielder Eddie Fortescue Jr. (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) has scored a goal nine matches this season which is the most by a Manor player since Mark Colville in 2013 (13).  Dating back to the 2021 season, he has scored a point in 12 of the last 13 matches.  This is the most by a Blue Jay since Colville in 2012 (15).  Fortescue Jr. has 11 multiple-point matches in the last 13. This is most by a Manor player since Colville had 11 straight in 2013.  He is also the first Blue Jay with 10 goals in a season since Zola Makanda in 2017.  His 13 goals in a season are the most since Colville scored 23 in 2013.  Fortescue Jr. is the first Blue Jay with 30 or points in a season since Colville contributed 68 in 2013.

Blue Jays among USCAA Division I Offensive Statistical Leaders (Through October 18): Fortescue Jr. leads USCAA Division I lead with 40 shots on goal.  He shares the USCAA Division I lead with 32 points.  He is second with 54 overall shots.   Fortescue Jr. is tied for second with three-game winning goals.  He is tied for second with Bangura with six assists. His 13 goals are third.  Junior midfielder John Levy (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Towne Charter) is third with 40 overall shots and fourth with 28 shots on goal.

Dempster Head Coach Milestone Watch: Manor Head Men's Soccer Coach John Dempster won his 91st career match with the victory versus Montgomery County.  He won his first match, 4-1, versus NJCAA Region XIX Division III Passaic County College on October 5, 2010 at home.  Dempster won his 25th, 6-0, versus Atlantic Cape Community College on October 10, 2012, at home.  He won his 50th, 10-0, at Pennsylvania State University-Schuylkill on September 28, 2015 in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania.  Dempster won his 75th, 5-1, at USCAA Division II Pennsylvania State University-Lehigh Valley on September 28, 2019.  His overall won-loss record is 91-85-2 (0.517).

Series Record (Since 2008): The Blue Jays are 7-2-1 overall (4-0-1 at home) versus the Mustangs since 2008.

The Blue Jays versus NJCAA (Since 2021): Since joining the USCAA, the Blue Jays are 2-3-0 overall (2-1-0 at home) versus NJCAA schools.

Next Match: Manor travels to play seventh-ranked USCAA Division II Bucks County Community College (5-6-0, 3-1-0 through October 17) in an ESAC match-up on Thursday, October 20 at 3:30 p.m. in Newtown, Pennsylvania.  The Blue Jays are 5-6-0 overall (1-5-0 on the road) versus the Centurions since 2008.  Manor defeated Bucks County in the previous overall match-up, 5-1, at Manor, on September 29, 2022.  The Centurions defeated Blue Jays in its previous road contest, 2-1, in double overtime on October 21, 2021.  Manor last won at Bucks County, 3-1, on October 15, 2016.
