MANOR COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES  IN SEASON FINALE TO LACKAWANNA COLLEGE

JENKINTOWN, PA—Lackawanna College (2-10-0) freshman Michaela Shonk scored six goals and added an assist as the Falcons defeated Manor College (1-9-0) in the season finale for both schools, 9-3.

 

Lackawanna opened up the scoring in the seventh minute.  Shonk passed the ball from around the 18-yard line to freshman Linda Sosa inside the 18.  Sosa kicked it past Manor freshman goalkeeper Alize Felton for the goal.  The Blue Jays tied it a one in the 14th minute.  Sophomore midfielder Gina Sgrillo's initial shot went off of Falcons sophomore goalkeeper Paige Durken.  Sgrillo got her own rebound and kicked into the net for her third goal of the season.  Lackawanna took the lead for good in the 17th minute.  Sophomore Bailey Bobkoskie passed the ball from Lackawanna's own side of the field to Shonk outside the Manor 18 before scoring the goal.  Shonk scored her second goal of the game in the 24th minute.  Sophomore Gabby Giordano pass from around midfield went to Shonk downfield.  Shonk drew Felton away from the goal area and kicked into the open net.  The Falcons scored in the 29th minute on Shonk's hat trick.  Durken made a save on a Blue Jays' corner kick.  She punted the ball downfield to Shonk, who scored from outside the 18.  Lackawanna scored in the 30th minute on Shonk's fourth goal of the contest off of a Manor turnover.  The Falcons closed out the scoring in the 39th minute.  Freshman Brianna Krzan started from around midfield and scored from inside the 18.  Lackawanna led 6-1 at halftime.  Each team had 15 overall shots in the first half.  The Falcons took 13 shots on goal, while the Blue Jays had nine.

 

Manor opened up the scoring the second half in the 49th minute which ended Lackawanna's run of five straight goals.  Blue Jays freshman midfielder Dominique Calio's shot from halfway between the Falcons 18 and midfield went into the left side of the net for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.  Lackawanna scored its first goal of the second half in the 62nd minute.  Giordano's throw in from near the end of the Falcons' bench went to Shonk downfield.  Shonk scored from around the 18 for her fifth goal of the game.  It was also Giordano's second assist of the contest.  The Falcons scored in the 68th minute on Shonk's sixth goal of the game.  Her shot from outside the 18 went into the left side of the net.  Lackawanna closed out its scoring in the 72nd minute.  Freshman Amelia Hossage's shot went off of the right goal post.  Sosa kicked the rebound into the net for her second goal of the game.  Manor closed out the scoring altogether in the 82nd minute. Calio passed the ball downfield to sophomore midfielder Jennifer Wilson.  Wilson's chip shot in the air from beyond the Lackawanna 18 went into the net for her second goal of the season.  Calio also contributed her second assist of the season.  The Falcons outscored the Blue Jays in the second half, 3-2, en route to the 9-3 victory.  Lackawanna outshot Manor, 16 (13 on goal) to 12 (nine on goal) in the second half and 31 (26 on goal) to 27 (18 on goal) for the game.

 

Individual Game Statistical Leaders: Blue Jays sophomore midfielder Erica Foreman led Manor with 10 shots overall and a personal-best eight on goal.  This was the second time this season Foreman had 10 or more overall shots in a game.  She had 12 overall shots versus Montgomery County Community College on September 26.  Calio had nine overall shots, including five on goal.  Her nine overall shots are the tied for second for the most she took in a game this season.  Calio also took nine overall shots at Lackawanna in its previous matchup on September 19 and 15 at home versus Montgomery County.  Shonk led both teams 17 shots overall and 15 on goal.  Hossage contributed five overall shots, including three on goal.  Durken stopped 15 of 18 Manor shots on goal.

 

Final Regular Season Game for Seven Sophomores: This was the final regular season game for the following seven Manor sophomores: forward Deja Fogg; midfielders Brianna Givens, Foreman, Sgrillo, and Wilson; center back Julia Rymarczuk and right back Nicole Suwala.

 

Series Record:  The Falcons leads the season series, 5-0-0 (since 2008), including 2-0-0 at Manor.  Lackawanna won its first matchup at Manor, 9-0, on September 18, 2008.
