JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (1-4-0 Overall, 1-2-0 NJCAA Region XIX Division III, 1-2-0 EPAC) sophomore midfielder Erica Forman scored two goals, including the overtime game-winner, as they defeated Montgomery County Community College (0-5-0, 0-5-0, 1-2-0), 4-3.
Blue Jays' freshman midfielder Dominique Calio opened up the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 12th minute. Her shot from outside the 18 went past Mustangs sophomore goalkeeper Angelina Capozzi. It was her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Montgomery County sophomore defender Kiersten Cruz tied the game at one in the 34th minute on a shot from inside the 18. It was her second goal of the season. The Blue Jays and Mustangs were tied at one at halftime. The Mustangs outshot the Blue Jays 17 (eight on goal) to seven (three on goal) in the first half.
Montgomery County took the early second-half lead on freshman Veni Petrov's first collegiate goal in the 47th minute. Mustangs' freshman midfielder Gabriella Sullivan passed the ball to Petrov from outside the 18 for her first collegiate assist. Montgomery County expanded the lead to 3-1 in the 65th minute on freshman forward Hannah Alderfer's second goal of the season. Her unassisted goal from inside the 18 gave the Mustangs a two-goal lead. Manor closed the gap to one on Forman's second goal of the season in the 67th minute. Calio passed the ball from outside the 18 to Forman for her first collegiate assist. Blue Jays' freshman center back Julia Rymarczuk tied the game at three in the 72nd minute on her first collegiate goal. Her unassisted goal came on a near midfield shot in the air that was beyond the reach of freshman goalkeeper Karlee Brecker.
The Blue Jays and Mustangs scored two goals each in the second half and were tied at three at the end of regulation. Manor outshot Montgomery County, 26 (12 on goal) to 11 (eight on goal) in the second half.
Forman scored the game-winning goal (her second of the game) in the ninth minute of overtime. Sophomore midfielder Jennifer Wilson passed the ball right to Forman and her shot from beyond the 18 went into the right-hand corner of the net for the victory and completed the comeback. It was Wilson's first collegiate assist. Manor outshot Montgomery County in overtime, seven (five on goal) to two (one on goal). The Blue Jays outshot the Mustangs, 40 (21 on goal) to 30 (18 on goal) for the game.
Calio led both teams with 15 total shots and eight on goal. Forman contributed 10 shots (six on goal) and sophomore midfielder Gina Sgrillo added 10 (five on goal). Montgomery County sophomore forward Sydnee Towns led the squad with nine shots (five on goal).
Blue Jays' freshman goalkeeper Alize Felton made 15 saves and won her first collegiate game. Brecker contributed 17 saves for the Mustangs.
Manor head coach Tom Gangi also won his first collegiate game.
This was the Blue Jays' first win since the program was reinstated for the 2017 season, after a four-year absence. Manor previously won overall and at home on October 13, 2012 (11-2 versus Union County), breaking a six-game overall losing streak.
Series Record: Manor leads the season series, 4-2-0 (since 2008). They are 3-2-0 at home versus Montgomery County. The Blue Jays have won four straight versus the Mustangs.
Going Overtime: The Blue Jays are 2-1-0 in overtime (since 2008). Manor also previously won in overtime at home versus Montgomery County on October 2, 2012 (2-1).
Next Game: Manor hosts Lehigh Carbon Community College 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 30. This is the first time the Blue Jays will be playing the Cougars since joining the NJCAA for the 2008 season.
