MANOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL NARROWLY DEFEATED BY ESSEX COUNTY COLLEGE

JENKINTOWN, PA—Essex County College (6-13 Overall, 4-12 NJCAA Region XIX Division II) freshman guards Dara Etim and Jenesis Fuentes scored 17 points and handed out five assists each as the Wolverines defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (4-12, 4-11), 56-54.

The Blue Jays led after the first quarter (13-12), but, the Wolverines led at halftime (27-26).  Fuentes paced both teams with 11 points.  Freshman shooting guard/small forward Emazhane Livingston (Newark, NJ/Technology) and sophomore point guard Kiara Stoval (Chester, PA/Ursuline Academy [DE]) led Manor with 10 first-half points each.

Essex County outscored Manor in the third (13-10) and led 40-36 after three quarters.  The Blue Jays outscored the Wolverines in the fourth, 16-14.  Essex County outscored Manor in the second half, 27-26.  Stoval led both teams with 13 second-half points.

Individual Statistical Leaders:  Livingston led Manor with 17 rebounds and five assists.  Freshman forward Jailynn Watson (Darby, PA/Penwood) paced the Blue Jays with five steals.  Freshman power forwardAllayna Gordon-Staley (Philadelphia, PA/Cristo Rey Philadelphia) contributed 12 rebounds for Manor. 

Sophomore guard Pamela Ramnarain scored 16 points for Essex County.  Freshman forward Hadiyah Hassan led both teams with 20 rebounds.  Sophomore forward Regina Hayes added 15 rebounds and paced both squads with four blocked shots.

Series Record (since 2008-2009): Manor were swept by Essex County in the season series, but, still leads the overall series 11-10 (5-5 at home).

Trailing at Halftime: The Blue Jays are 0-9 when trailing at halftime this season (including 0-4 at home).  They are 0-1 when tied at halftime this season.

Trailing after Three Quarters: Manor is 1-9 when trailing after three quarters this season (including 1-2 at home).

Next Game: Manor hosts Region XIX Division II Rowan College at Burlington County (14-6, 10-5) 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12.  The Blue Jays are 12-13 overall (7-5 at home) versus the Barons since the 2008-2009 season.  Burlington County won the previous match-up, 68-46, on November 13, 2018 in Pemberton, New Jersey.  Burlington County also won the previous match-up at Manor, 68-47, on December 14, 2017.
