MANOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL LOSES TO  DELAWARE TECHNICAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE-STANTON

JENKINTOWN, PA—Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton (3-10 Overall, 2-6 Region XIX Division II) freshman center Breanna Grant scored 20 points and led both teams with 23 rebounds as the Spirit defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (5-5, 1-4), 76-72.

The Spirit began the game with an 8-2 lead with 5:50 left in the opening quarter.  The Blue Jays responded with an 8-2 run of its own over the next 2:13 and tied the game at 10 with 2:37 remaining on sophomore guard/forward Jaquay Williams' (Philadelphia, PA) layup and free throw after getting fouled by freshman guard QuaTierra DeShields.  Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton scored seven straight points over the next 1:52.  Grant's layup with 0:20.9 left completed the streak.  The Spirit led 19-12, after the first quarter. 

Manor began the second quarter on 12-3 run during the first 2:54 and took a 24-22 lead.  Freshman guard Alize Felton's (New Castle, DE) three-point basket, with an assist by Williams, gave the Blue Jays its first lead of the game with 7:06 remaining in the second quarter.  After Grant's layup tied the contest at 24 with 6:53 left, Manor went on a 10-1 during the next 3:18, and took its largest lead of the game, 34-25, with 3:25 remaining on Felton's throw.  The Blue Jays outscored the Spirit in the second quarter, 26-13, and led 38-32, at halftime.

Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton went on a 14-5 run in the first 6:10 of the third quarter and opened up a 48-43 lead.  Going back to the second quarter, the Spirit went on a 23-9 run over a course of 9:35.  They retook the lead for good, 46-44, during this run on freshman center Ronnay Blatch-Huggins' jump shot with 4:05 left.  Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton outscored Manor in the quarter, 23-11, and led 55-49 after three.

Freshman guard Xzaveria Robinson's layup gave the Spirt its largest lead of the game, 60-49, with over nine minutes left in the fourth quarter.  The Blue Jays answered with a 14-6 run between 8:37 and 3:54 of the fourth and got within three points (66-63) on Felton's three-point basket, with an assist from forward/center Kellicia Brown (Philadelphia, PA).  Felton scored all 14 points during this run.  Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton responded, going on a 7-2 run over the next 2:08 and expanded its advantage to 73-65 with 1:45 remaining.  Manor answered again, scoring eight consecutive points during the next 1:01 and got within one point, 73-72, on Brown's three-point basket with 0:44.8 left.  Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton scored its remaining points on free throws.  The Blue Jays outscored the Spirit in the fourth, 23-21, but, the Spirit won 76-72.

Individual Statistical Leaders: Felton led Manor with 28 points and paced both teams with six three-point baskets.  Brown scored 17 and led the Blue Jays with 12 rebounds.  Her six steals and five blocked shots also paced both squads.  Williams added 12 points and led both teams with nine assists.

Freshman guard Aahliyah Selby scored 19 points and led Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton with five assists.  Blatch-Huggins contributed 16 points and 13 rebounds.  Robinson added 13 points and paced the Spirit with five steals.  DeShields pulled down 11 rebounds.

Series Record: The Blue Jays are 14-7 overall (8-3 at home) versus the Spirit.  The defeat to Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton broke an eight-game overall and four-game home winning streaks.  The Spirit last won at Manor on January 22, 2013 (69-66).

Next Game: Manor hosts Raritan Valley Community College (7-2 Overall, 3-2 Region XIX Division II) 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9.  The Blue Jays are 10-0 versus the Lions.  Manor swept the 2016-2017 season series.  The Blue Jays won on the road, 90-42, on November 15, 2016 and at home, 104-62, on February 4, 2017.
