MANOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OVERWHELMS MIDDLESEX COUNTY COLLEGE

JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (3-0 Overall) freshman forward/center Alliya Austin (Pottstown, PA) led both teams with 25 points as the Blue Jays defeated the Division III Middlesex County College Colts (2-2), 79-42, in a non-conference match-up.

The Blue Jays scored the first nine points in the first 4:20 of the opening quarter.  Freshman forward/center Kellicia Brown (Philadelphia, PA) completed the run on a layup with 5:40 left in the first.  Freshman guard Zaira Butler's jump shot with 4:48 remaining got Middlesex County on the scoreboard.  The closest the Colts got for the remainder of the game was four points (9-5) on freshman center's Leeannah Hunter's free throw with 3:20 left.  Manor responded with 6-1 run to end the first and led 15-6 after one counter.

Manor's run continued into the second quarter, scoring the first five points in the first 4:19, and opened up 20-6 lead with 5:41 remaining.  Austin's jump shot completed the Blue Jays' run.  Altogether, Manor went on an 11-1 run over a 7:39 stretch between two quarters.  The Blue Jays' defense did not allow a Colt field goal between 3:44 left in the first and 4:55 remaining in the second, an 8:39 stretch.  Freshman forward Jenna Mahoney's layup ended the run of not scoring a Middlesex County field goal.  Freshman guard Alize Felton's (New Castle, DE) layup with 3:18 left gave Manor its largest lead of the first half (27-9).  The Blue Jays outscored the Colts in the quarter, 16-9, and led 31-15 at halftime.  Austin scored 11 points in the quarter and led both teams with 14 points.  Felton contributed 10 points for Manor in the first half.

The Blue Jays' defense held the Colts scoreless again to open up the second half.  Manor scored the first 12 points in the first 4:37 of the third quarter.  Freshman guard Kiara Stoval's (Chester, PA) layup, with an assist by Felton finished off the run with 5:23 left in the third quarter.  This run opened up a 43-15 lead.  Butler's three-point field goal with 5:15 remaining was the only Middlesex County third quarter field goal made.  Felton's free throws with 2:55 left gave the Blue Jays its largest lead at that point for the second time in the contest (50-22).  Manor outscored Middlesex County in the third quarter, 19-9, and led 50-24 after three.

Manor started the fourth quarter the same way they began the previous three.  The Blue Jays scored 12 straight points for the second straight quarter.  They accomplished this in the first 2:14 of the fourth and opened up a 61-24 lead.  During this run, Stoval's three-point field goal with 8:37 remaining gave Manor a 56-24 lead.  Manor maintained a 30-point plus edge for the remainder of the contest.  Felton's layup and free throw completed the run with 7:46 left.  Freshman guard Ayanna Abdul Ahad's layup with 7:21 remaining gave Middlesex County its first field goal made in 8:44 and ended Manor's consecutive point streak.  Austin's free throw with around seven minutes left gave the Blue Jays its largest lead of the game (62-24).  Freshman forward Caitlin Powell's (Katy, TX) jump shot, on another Felton assist with under ten seconds remaining, completed Manor's scoring.  The Blue Jays outscored the Colts in the fourth quarter, 29-18, and, 48-27 in the second half, en route to the 79-42 win.  Austin scored 11 points and Felton added 10 in the second half.  Hunter scored 10 of Middlesex County's 18 points in the fourth quarter.

Individual Statistical Leaders: Austin also led Manor with 17 rebounds.  Felton scored 20 points, handed out eight assists, and contributed six steals.  Freshman guard/forward Jaquay Williams (Philadelphia, PA) scored 12 points and led both teams with seven steals.  Brown contributed 13 rebounds.

Defensively, Manor held Middlesex County to 18.6% field goal shooting and forced 27 Colt turnovers.

Hunter scored 12 points, pulled down 20 rebounds, and contributed three steals.  Butler added 10 points.

Series Record (since 2002-2003, but, the 2003-2004 season is unavailable): The Blue Jays are 2-0 versus the Colts.  This is the first time Manor hosted Middlesex County in this series.

Next Game:  Manor travels Mercer County Community College (3-2 Overall, 1-1 Region XIX Division II) 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 14 in Trenton, New Jersey.  The Blue Jays are 13-5 versus the Vikings.  Manor is 4-5 at Mercer County, including three consecutive wins.  The Blue Jays swept the 2016-2017 matchups, 90-40 on December 8, 2016 at home and 79-53 on January 19, 2017 on the road.  Manor has won seven straight contests versus Mercer County.

Next Home Game:  The Blue Jays host the Region XX Division I Harford Fighting Owls 5:00 pm. Tuesday, November 28.  This is the first time the two schools met in this series.  Harford was ranked 20th in the 2017-2018 NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Preseason Poll.  Manor last played a Region XX school on November 2, 2016 at Cecil College (83-81 road overtime loss).  The Blue Jays never hosted a Region XX school and are 0-4 overall versus those programs.
