JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (13-10 Overall, 8-8 Region XIX Division II) freshman guard Chyna Steele (York, PA/York) scored 18 points as they defeated Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton (7-21, 2-13), 89-58. 

 

Manor led after the first quarter, 28-15, and scored the first nine points in the second.  Freshman guard Jaquay Williams' (Philadelphia, PA/Audenreid) three-point basket with 5:35 left in the quarter began a 10-2 run over the next 3:10 and opened up a 27-point lead (52-25). Sophomore center Etreece Adams (Philadelphia, PA/Imhotep) finished off the run with a layup off of a turnover with 2:25 remaining in the first half. The Blue Jays outscored the Spirit in the quarter, 26-14, and led at halftime, 54-29. Steele led Manor with 11 points.  Sophomore forward Aaliyah Mercante also scored 11 for Stanton. 

 

The Blue Jays maintained a 25-point-plus lead for most of the third quarter.  Neither team scored more than four straight points in the quarter.  Manor went a 10-3 during a 1:42 stretch and opened up its largest lead of the game (74-42).  Williams' layup with 0:28 remaining in the third finished off the Blue Jays' run.  Manor outscored Stanton in the quarter, 20-15, and led after three, 74-44.

 

The Spirit went on a 9-1 run that began late in the third quarter (0:08 remaining) and early into the fourth.  Mercante scored six of the nine points in this stretch. It was capped off by a freshman guard Ciani Hamilton three-point basket with an assist by Mercante with 8:17 left in the fourth.  The Blue Jays scored six consecutive points over the next 2:37 and opened up a 30-point lead (81-51). The mini-run was completed by a sophomore forward Shawn Dowd (Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby) jump shot with an assist by Adams with 5:40 left.  Manor scored six of eight points during a 2:14 stretch that gave them an 87-56 lead with two minutes left in the game.  Williams' "coast-to-coast" layup finished off this Blue Jay mini-run.  Manor outscored Stanton in the quarter, 15-14, in the second half, 35-29.  Mercante led both teams in the second half with 13 points.

 

In addition to Steele, four more Blue Jays scored in double-figures.  Garvin scored 16 points, Dowd added 14, and Williams contributed 13.  Freshman forward Kennedy Telfair (Alexandria, VA/Thomas Edison) scored 11 off the bench.

 

Defensively, Manor held Stanton to a 28.1 overall field goal percentage.  The Blue Jays also forced 22 turnovers.

 

Mercante led both teams with 24 points and nine rebounds. Freshman guard Taylor Davis and Hamilton scored 13 points each. 

 

The Blue Jays swept the Spirit and are 14-6 overall and 8-2 at home.  Manor have won eight in a row and nine of the previous 10 in this series.

 

The victory improves Manor's home mark to 6-4 on the regular season. All six of Blue Jays' home victories have been by 31 or more points.  This is the fifth straight season Manor posted a winning home won-loss record.  They have a 0.500 or better home record in 12 of the previous 13 seasons. 

 

Manor's next game is in the Region XIX Division II Tournament.  Opponent, date, and time are to be announced Tuesday, February 21.
