Women’s Basketball Gets the W against Lackawanna College

With only two games left in their regular season, the Lady Blue Jays are looking to make every shot count.  On Saturday, February 8, they travelled to Nanticoke, Pa. to play Lackawanna College; having lost to Lackawanna earlier in the season, Manor was looking for revenge.

Team captain, Kira Ogden says, “We knew this was a big game because Lackawanna beat us the first time by six points so we knew that it was possible to go in there home gym and get the W.”

And that is exactly what they did.

The Lady Blue Jays played to their full capacity, and it was enough.  Coach Robert Reeves says, “This was a team victory from the players on the floor to the player who didn't get in the game. The players on the bench was chanting ‘DEFENSE, DEFENSE’ motivating their teammates. This was a team effort and I am proud of them.”

On the court, #21 Indya Lucas led the team scoring 25 points with 13 rebounds.  Center, #10 Tyshay Britten was being tightly guarded, and still managed to get 14 rebounds while scoring 7 points.  During the first half of the game Manor outscored Lackawanna by six points, and then Lackawanna came back strong in the second half outscoring Manor by 3 points.

It was the teams motivating play and drive that gave them this win.  Ogden says, “We did what we do best and we drove to the basket instead of shooting any oh jump shot. We also played a really good tight zone and kept them from getting to the lane and made them shoot jump shots.”

It was the defense that stopped Lackawanna from gaining points, and gave Manor the upper hand.

Coach Reeves says, “During half time I just talked to the girls about finishing the game and playing hard for the last 20 minutes, and they did that.”

This week, Manor College took on Burlington County College and unfortunately lost 66-61.  On Saturday, February 15, the Lady Blue Jays will play Essex County College for their home regular season game, and will celebrate the graduating sophomores.
