Lady Jays Beat Harcum College in Quarter Finals

Lady Jays Beat Harcum College in Quarter Finals

It was an intense first half on Monday night in the Manor College gymnasium, as the crowd started to pile in and the 15-8 Manor Blue Jays were going to play against local rivals the 14-12 Harcum Bears.

Coach Robert Reeves said, “I was nervous, anxious and excited all at once for this game.”

Both teams knew that whoever was to win this game, would move on and play in the semi-final game later in the week – both teams had nothing to lose.

Team Captain, Kira Ogden, who was out on injury said, “I was really nervous for my team because this was Harcum and very time we played them it wasn't easy.”

Right from the tip off, the Lady Blue Jays were playing a strong and agrresive game.

Right from the tip the team played strong and aggressive. They started the game off really good with lots of energy and kept that same energy the whole game. #21 Indya Lucas was shooting great, getting herself 33 points during the game while teammate #10 Tyshay Britten had herself 17 rebounds and 22 points.

The Lady Blue Jays made several great runs to the baskets, passing, shooting and moving around the Harcum defense.  By halftime, the Blue Jays were up by 12 points, and Coach Reeves had some encouraging words for the team.

Reeves said, “I told them they were playing really well and to keep it up. I knew that Harcum was going to make a run the second half they told them to be ready for it.”

During the second half, like Coach Reeves predicted, Harcum made a run for the basket.  Harcum started coming back, scoring 43 points, but the Blue Jays defense did a great job getting the ball and making the baskets needed.

#31 Sierra Wilkinson had a breakout game, scoring 10 points with 19 rebounds, while #22 Brittany Smith netted herself 22 points as well.

“We shot the ball really well, and that helped us win the game,” said Coach Reeves.

The Lady Blue Jays defeated Harcum College 88 – 72 for the final score, and put themselves in position to keep their season going.

Coming up later today, the Lady Blue Jays will travel to Brookdale County College to play Burlington County College at 3:45pm.

Burlington CC has a tough zone defense that the Manor Blue Jays will have to play tough against and really work on getting those open shots.
