MANOR COLLEGE ELIMINATED BY HARCUM COLLEGE IN REGION XIX DIVISION I POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINALS

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA—Harcum College (8-5-1) freshman forward Kamal Saber scored a hat trick as the Bears eliminated the Manor College Blue Jays (7-6-1) in the Region XIX Division I Postseason Tournament Quarterfinals, 5-1, at The Proving Grounds.

This was Manor's first Postseason Tournament match as a Division I team and its first since October 31, 2013 when they were in Division III (2-1 double overtime loss versus Union County in the Semifinals).

Harcum opened the scoring in the 13th minute (13:09) of the first half.  Following a Manor foul outside of the 18, freshman forward Archie Sewell's direct kick and shot on goal rebounded to freshman midfielder Michael Forde around the six-yard line.  Forde's shot went into the middle of the net.  The Bears added to its lead in the 26th minute (26:02).  Sewell's pass went to Saber inside the 18 and kicked it into the left of the net.  Manor cut the lead in half in the 27th minute (27:18).  Sophomore midfielder Nicholas Martinez' (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) pass from outside the 18 went to freshman midfielder/forward Preston Gray (Bristol, PA/Truman) inside the 18.  Gray's shot went into the right side of the side of the net for his sixth goal of the season.  Martinez' assist was his first of the season. The Bears led at halftime, 2-1.  Harcum outshot Manor, 12 (eight on goal) to 10 (five on goal) in the first half.

The Bears opened up its lead in the second half.  Sewell's pass from outside the 18 went to sophomore forward Karam Idris inside the 18.  Idris' shot went to the right side of the net in the 50th minute (50:17).  Sewell got credit for his second of the assist of the match on Idris' goal.  Freshman forward Ramon Gallegos passed the ball to Saber and he ran from outside the 18 and his shot went into the left side of the net for his second goal of the match in the 67th minute (66:56).  Saber finished off the scoring for the match and completed his hat trick off of an Idris throw in the 70th minute (70:04).  The Bears outshot the Blue Jays, 18 (eight on goal) to six (two on goal) in the second half.  Harcum outshot Manor, 30 (16 on goal) to 16 (seven on goal) for the match.

Harcum advances to the semifinals and will play top-seed Essex County College (9-1-0) 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 23 at Weequahic Park in Newark, New Jersey.

Series Record: Harcum leads the season series, 6-0-0 (3-0-0 at Harcum) (Since 2008).

Postseason Record: Manor is 1-4 overall (0-1 in Division I) in the Region XIX Postseason Tournament (0-2 on the road).

Final Match for Sophomores: This was the final match for six Blue Jay sophomores.  They are as follows: midfielder Ibrahim Abdelghani (Philadelphia, PA/Kensington), defenseman Bill Freeman (Philadelphia, PA/Academy Park), defenseman Turrell Gordon (Philadelphia, PA/Olney), defenseman/midfielder Moussa Kanate (Philadelphia, PA/Fels), defenseman Mason Maglio (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Upper Moreland), and Martinez.
