MANOR COLLEGE MEN’S SOCCER SHUTS OUT CECIL COLLEGE IN HOME OPENER

JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (1-0-0 Overall) freshman midfielder Kelvin Siem contributed a goal and assist as the Blue Jays blanked Region XIX Division I and Maryland JUCO member Cecil College (0-2-0), 3-0.

Manor opened up the scoring in the 11th minute.  Siem passed the ball to sophomore midfielder Nicholas Martinez outside the 18-yard line.  He kicked past freshman goalkeeper Ian Gehris into the right side of the net.  Manor led at halftime, 1-0.  The Blue Jays outshot the Seahawks 11 (six on goal) to four (three on goal) in the first half.

The Blue Jays added to its lead in the second half.  Manor freshman goalkeeper Aaron Chester punted the ball to freshman midfielder Amadou Kamagate beyond the 50-yard line and into Cecil territory.  Kamagate then passed it up the middle of the field to Siem, who kicked it beyond the 18, and into upper part of the net past Gehris in the 68th minute.  Manor closed out the scoring in the 73rd minute.  Freshman midfielder/forward Julio Hernandez passed left to freshman midfielder/defenseman Therno Diallo to around the six-yard line.  Diallo then kicked it into the left side of the net.  The Blue Jays outscored the Seahawks, 2-0, in the second half en route to the 3-0 victory.  Manor outshot Cecil, 13 (10 on goal) to three (two on goal), in the second half and 24-7 for the contest. 

Defense Rests: Chester saved all of Cecil's five shots on goal in his first collegiate start.  The Blue Jay defense limited the Seahawks to seven shots overall.  They previously shut out an opponent in the season and home opener on August 29, 2013 versus Division III Bucks County Community College, 3-0.  This was also the last time they won a season opener at home.

Series Record:  Manor leads the season series, 2-0.  This was their first visit to Manor.  Manor won the first meeting, 5-1, in North East, MD, on August 30, 2017.

Season Openers:  The Blue Jays are 10-5-1 in season openers since 2004.  They are 7-4-1 since joining the NJCAA in 2008.  This is the third consecutive season they opened versus a Region XX Division I school.  The Blue Jays are 5-3-1 in season openers under Head Coach John Dempster.

Home Openers:  The Blue Jays are 7-6-1 in home openers since 2005.  They are 5-5-1 since joining the NJCAA in 2008.  Manor has won two straight home openers.  The Blue Jays are 4-4-1 in home openers under Dempster.

Next Home Game: Manor hosts Division III Raritan Valley Community College Tuesday, September 4.  The Blue Jays are 0-5-0 (0-4-0 on the road) versus the Lions.  Manor lost, 2-1, at Raritan Valley on September 5, 2017 in its previous meeting.  They previously hosted them on September 25, 2010 (2-1 overtime loss).  The Blue Jays are 0-3-0 versus the Lions under Dempster.

Next Game: Manor travels to USCAA Division II and PSUAC Member Pennsylvania State University-Brandywine in Media, Pennsylvania at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 1.  This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
