MANOR COLLEGE’S MAKANDA NAMED TO 2017 NJCAA ALL-REGION XIX DIVISION I MEN’S SOCCER TEAM

JENKINTOWN, PA—The NJCAA announced its 2017 All-Region XIX Division I Men's Soccer Team by the league office.  Freshman forward Zola Makanda (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) was named to the second team.  He was the lone Manor College player named to this All-Region Team.

 

Makanda was one of the three Blue Jays to start and play and start in all 18 games this season.  He led the Blue Jays with 10 goals, 46 total shots, and 30 shots on goal.  Makanda also paced the team with three game-winning goals: Delaware County Community College (September 28), Pennsylvania State University-Lehigh Valley (October 4), and Harrisburg Area Community College (October 12).  He was second on Manor in points (21) and shooting percentage (0.217).  His 0.652 shots on goal percentage (shots on goal divided by total shots) is also second on the Blue Jays.

 

Makanda became the eighth Blue Jay to score 10 or more goals in a season since 2005.  The last Manor player to score 10 or more goals in a season was Abraham Kamara, who contributed 10 in 2015.

 

Manor College Men's Soccer eighth-year Head Coach John Dempster on Makanda and his selection to the Region XIX Division I All-Region Second Team: "Zola was all about Manor College from day one.  He did everything that was asked of him.  Zola, is a very talented soccer player, who has a tremendous upside.  I am looking forward to his sophomore year.  He is truly a gentleman and a scholar."

 

This is the second straight season that a Manor men's soccer player was named to this All-Region Team.  Defenseman Kyle Goldbloom and midfielders Kevin Rodriguez and Cole Speiser were named to the 2016 second team.

 

The men's soccer team finished the 2017 season with an 8-9-1 record under Dempster.
