SIX MANOR COLLEGE SOPHOMORE MEN’S SOCCER PLAYERS SCHEDULED TO PLAY IN THEIR FINAL REGULAR SEASON HOME GAME

 

JENKINTOWN, PA—Six sophomore Manor College (7-8-1) men's soccer players are scheduled to play their final regular season home game versus Region XIX Division III Harrisburg Area Community College (3-7-0) on October 12 at 3:30 p.m.

 

The six players are as follows: goalkeeper Emanuel Caire (Philadelphia, PA/Fels); defensemen Jon Cabrera (Aldan, PA/Mercy Vo-Tech), Seykou Camara (Philadelphia, PA/Roxborough), Arthur Greenwood (Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Academy Charter), and Damien Schwiezer (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Towne Charter); and goalkeeper/forward Brock Hirschman (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge).

 

Manor College Head Coach John Dempster, in his eighth season, on this year's men's soccer sophomore class: "The sophomore class this year was one of the most coachable I've had in years.  They did whatever the coaches needed them to do."

 

Dempster on the leadership: "The leadership was taken to a new level, it wasn't just about wearing the captain's sleeve.  The captain's cared about the members of this team on and off the field."

 

Caire is one of the team's captains for this season and has a Manor College Hard Hat Player of the Game Award (as selected by the Blue Jays' coaching staff).  He has started 11 of the 12 games in goal for Manor.  Caire also played in two other games outside the net.  Overall, he has a 6-4-1 record this season.  Caire has allowed two or fewer goals in eight of his 11 starts.  He registered his first collegiate shutout versus Delaware County Community College on September 28, 2017, stopping all seven shots on goal in the 2-0 win.  Caire also appeared in four games in 2016.  He won in his first collegiate start versus Lehigh Carbon Community College on October 8, 2016.  Caire stopped nine of 10 shots and contributed an assist in the victory.  Altogether, he has played in 16 career games (12 starts) as a goalkeeper with a 7-4-1 record.

 

Dempster on Caire: "Emanuel shined in the net and won the respect of his teammates.  Manny is one of the most skilled goalies we've had in a long time."

 

Cabrera has started in all 14 games he has played this season and also has been selected for a Hard Hat Player of the Game in 2017.  He scored his first collegiate and game-winning goal and registered an assist versus Williamson College of the Trade on October 9, 2017.  Cabrera is among team leaders with 18 shots overall and 10 on goal.  He also saw action for the Blue Jays in 2016.

 

Dempster on Cabrera: "Jon improved so much as a player.  He played defense and offense and he became an instant starter."

 

Camara has played in 14 games (six starts) this season and has been selected for a Hard Hat Player of the Game.  He scored his first collegiate goal at Cecil College in the season opener on August 30, 2017.  Camara also played for Manor in 2016.

 

Dempster on Camara: "Seykou has one of the best personalities on the team.  He always kept our team focused in a positive way, he plays within himself and became the starter that we knew he would become."

 

Greenwood is also one of the Manor's captains and has also been selected for a Hard Hat Player of the Game this season.  He has played and started in 15 games this season.  Greenwood played forward for the 2016 Blue Jays.  He scored two goals and contributed two assists in a 5-1 victory at Harrisburg Area Community College on October 1, 2016.  Greenwood shared the team lead with four assists in his freshman season.

 

Dempster on Greenwood: "Arthur 'Trey' Greenwood will be missed.  He started his sophomore year as the go-to leader.  He gets respect from the entire team and after each game he clearly earns the respect from our opponent."

 

Hirschman has come off the bench in 11 games in his only season for the Blue Jays.

 

Dempster on Hirschman: "Brock was one of the nicest most reliable players on the team this year.  He was never late and never complained."

 

Schweizer is also one of the Manor's captains and has been selected for a Hard Hat Player of the Game during the 2017 season.  He is one of four Blue Jays who have played and started in all of the team's 16 games this season.  Schweizer is among team leaders with 25 shots overall and 13 on goal.  He saw also action for the 2016 Blue Jays.

 

Dempster on Schweizer: "Damien from day one did whatever we asked of him.  He is a very skilled player who loves the game.  He respects his coaches and earned the right to become one of the captain's this year.  He is our heart and soul."

 

The Blue Jays have already improved upon its overall win total from the 2016 season and won its most overall games since moving up to Division I in 2014  They will finish with a winning regular season home won-loss record for the first time since 2013.  Manor also won five games at home for first time since 2013 when they won seven.
