JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (4-7-0) freshman forward Zola Makanda scored both goals as they shut out NJCAA Region XIX Division III Delaware County Community College (4-4-0), 2-0.

The Blue Jays scored the only goal in the first half in the 21st minute.  Manor freshman midfielder Nicholas Martinez passed the ball downfield to Makanda inside the 18-yard line.  Makanda kicked it past Delaware County freshman goalkeeper Joseph Messina into the net.  It was Makanda's sixth goal of the season.  Martinez registered his team-leading fourth assist of the season.  Both teams registered six overall shots each in the first half.  The Phantoms had four shots on goal and the Blue Jays had three.

The Blue Jays made the score 2-0 in the 84th minute after a Delaware County player committed a foul outside their own 18.  Manor freshman Asuava Oghenero's direct kick from outside the 18 went to Makanda between the six and 18.  Makanda's head shot went into the net past Messina for his second goal of the contest and team-leading seventh-goal of the season.  This was Makanda's first multi-goal game since he scored two in the season opener at Region XX Division I Cecil County on August 30.  Oghenero contributed his third assist of the season. Manor outshot Delaware County, 10 (four on goal) to three (three on goal), in the second half and 16-9 for the game.

Individual Game Statistical Leaders: Makanda led both teams with six shots overall and three on goal.  Manor sophomore goalkeeper Emanuel Caire made seven saves in his first collegiate shutout and third victory of the season.  Freshman Jorge Martinez paced Delaware County with three shots overall and on goal.

Manor College Hard Hat Awards (as selected by the Blue Jays' coaching staff): Sophomore defenseman Arthur Greenwood, Makanda, and Oghenero each received this award.

Shutout Notes: Manor previously shut out an opponent on September 28, 2015 at Pennsylvania State University-Schuylkill (10-0).  The Blue Jays' last home shutout was on October 29, 2013 versus Sussex County Community College on October 29, 2013 in the second round of the NJCAA Region XIX Division III Postseason Tournament.

Series Notes:  Manor leads the season series, 14-2-0 (since 2004). They are 7-1-0 versus the Phantoms under Head Coach John Dempster.  The Blue Jays have won three straight, including 10 of the last 11 contests in this series.  Manor is 9-1-0 at home versus Delaware County since 2005.  The Blue Jays previously shut out the Phantoms at home on September 12, 2013 (3-0).

Next Game: Manor hosts Rowan College at Burlington County (7-2-0 Overall, 0-1-0 Region XIX Division I) 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 30.  Burlington County leads this series 3-0-0.  The Blue Jays lost to the Barons on the road in its previous meeting, 7-1 on October 11, 2016. Manor lost its previous home matchup versus Burlington County, 6-1, on October 17, 2015.
