LACKAWANNA COLLEGE DEFEATS  MANOR COLLEGE MEN’S SOCCER IN HOME OPENER

JENKINTOWN, PA—Lackawanna College (1-1-1 Overall, 1-0-0 Region XIX Division I) freshman forward Fitz Jolly scored two goals and sophomore forward Santash Subedi contributed two assists as they defeated Manor College (1-1-0, 0-1-0), 5-1. This match was Manor's home opener.

Lackawanna opened up the scoring in the second minute on freshman forward Montrell James' corner kick to sophomore forward Lamin Barrow.  Barrow kicked it past Manor's sophomore goalkeeper Emanuel Caire into the left side of the net.  It was Barrow's first goal and James' first assist of the season.  Jolly also added his first goal of the season, unassisted, in the 34th minute.  The Falcons expanded its lead to 3-0 in the 39th minute on Jolly's second goal of the match.  Jolly's goal was set up by sophomore midfielder Prem Subedi's kick from nearly midfield to Santash Subedi inside the 18-yard line.  Lackawanna led Manor at halftime, 3-0.  The Falcons outshot the Blue Jays 19 (10 on goal) to three (one on goal) in the first half.

The Falcons opened up the scoring in the second half in the 46th minute.  James scored his first collegiate goal from outside the 18.  The Blue Jays scored its only goal in the 47th minute.  Freshman forward Zola Makanda's kick went off of a Lackawanna defender.  Manor freshman midfielder Asuava Oghenero picked up the loose ball and kicked it past Lackawanna sophomore goalkeeper Robert Kuzma into the left side of the net.  It was Oghenero's first collegiate goal.  Lackawanna scored the final goal of the match in the 59th minute.  Prem Subedi scored his first goal of the season on a header.  His goal was set up by Santash Subedi's pass from outside the 18. The Falcons outscored the Blue Jays, 2-1, in the second half en route to the 5-1 victory.  Lackawanna outshot Manor, 21 (12 on goal) to 12 (six on goal), in the second half and 40-15 for the contest.

Freshman defenseman Bill Zwoduah received the Manor College Hard Hat Award, as selected by the Blue Jays' coaching staff.

Series Record:  Lackawanna leads the season series, 2-0.  This was their first visit to Manor.  Lackawanna won the first meeting, 2-1, in Scranton, on September 19, 2016.

Home Openers:  The Blue Jays are 6-6-1 in home openers since 2005.  They are 4-5-1 since joining the NJCAA in 2008.  Manor has lost four straight home openers since moving up to Division I for the 2014 season.  They last won its home opener on August 29, 2013 versus Division III Bucks County Community College, 3-0.  The Blue Jays are 3-4-1 in home openers under Head Coach John Dempster.

Next Game: Manor travels to Division III Raritan Valley Community College (0-0-0) in North Branch, New Jersey 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 5.  The Blue Jays are 0-4-0 (0-3-0 on the road) versus the Lions.  Manor lost, 3-2, in overtime at Raritan Valley on September 18, 2014 in its previous meeting. The Blue Jays are 0-2-0 under Dempster.

Next Home Game:  Manor hosts Division III Middlesex County College (1-0-0) at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, September 7.  The Blue Jays are 1-4-1 (0-2-0) versus the Colts.  Manor lost, 3-1, at Middlesex County on September 8, 2016 in its previous overall meeting.  They lost, 5-4 in overtime to the Colts on October 3, 2015 in its previous home match. Manor is 1-3-0 overall versus Middlesex County under Dempster.
