MANOR MEN’S BASKETBALL LOSES TO NATIONALLY-RANKED HARCUM COLLEGE IN NON-CONFERENCE MATCH-UP

JENKINTOWN, PA—Harcum College (21-2 overall) sophomore guard Dom London led both teams with 32 points (including nine three-point baskets) as the NJCAA Division I 24th-ranked (tied) Bears defeat the Manor College Blue Jays (9-11), 114-72, in a non-conference game.

Prior to the start of the game, there was a 24-second moment silence for the nine deaths in a January 26, 2020 helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, which included former NBA forward/guard Kobe Bryant.  Bryant was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated from Lower Merion High School.

The Bears never trailed in this game.  Harcum led at halftime, 59-30.  London led both teams with 15 points (including five three point-baskets).  Sophomores Channick Nkoma (forward) contributed 12 points and Khalif Meares (guard) added 10 points.  Sophomore forward/center Robert Tucker (Philadelphia, PA/Paul Robeson) led the Blue Jays with 11 points.  Harcum outscored Manor, 55-42, in the second half.  London and Tucker scored 17 second-half points each.

The loss extended Manor's overall losing streak to three.  The Blue Jays have also lost three straight at home, dating back to December 17, 2019 (79-70 versus the Community College of Philadelphia). Harcum's win was its 16th straight overall, including six on the road.

Individual Statistical Leaders: Tucker led Manor with 28 points and 14 rebounds (which led both teams).  Freshman guard Jeremiah Staten (Chicago, IL/Hillcrest) scored 10 points.  Sophomore guard Jewel Funchess (Philadelphia, PA/Olney) pulled down 10 rebounds for the Blue Jays.

London also contributed six assists and led both teams with three steals.  Mears scored 17 points.  Sophomore guard Nick Brennen scored 14 points and handed out five assists.  Freshman center Mikal Alphonse led both teams with nine blocked shots.  Freshman guard Fatayn Wesley paced both teams with seven assists.

Next Game: Manor travels on the road to play NJCAA Region XIX Division II Essex County College (13-4 Overall, 9-1 Region XIX Division II) 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2020 in Newark, New Jersey.  This is a make-up game from Saturday January 18, 2020 due to inclement weather.  The Blue Jays are 8-17 overall (2-9 on the road) versus the Wolverines.  Manor won the previous meeting, 87-74, at home, on December 14, 2019.  The Blue Jays won the previous road meeting, 78-70, on November 17, 2018.  Manor has won two straight road games at Essex County.

Next Home Game: Manor hosts NJCAA Region XIX Division II Mercer County Community College 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2020.  The Blue Jays are 12-12 overall (7-4 at home) versus the Vikings.  Manor lost its previous meeting versus Mercer County, 65-61, on the road, on November 19, 2019.  The Blue Jays lost the previous home meeting, 94-90, in overtime, on December 6, 2018.
