MANOR MEN’S BASKETBALL’S FUNCHESS’  LATE GO-AHEAD THREE-POINTER GIVES THE BLUE JAYS THE VICTORY VERSUS GWYNEDD MERCY JUNIOR VARSITY

JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (3-6 Overall) sophomore guard Jewell Funchess' (Philadelphia, PA/Olney) go-ahead three-point basket (with an assist by sophomore guard Anthony Rodriguez [Philadelphia, PA/Frankford]) with 3.1 seconds left in the second half helped the Blue Jays defeat the Gwynedd Mercy Junior Varsity Griffins, 84-81, in a non-conference match-up.

Manor led at halftime, 44-41.  Griffins sophomore guard Jalen Henry led both teams with 13 first-half points.  Sophomore forward/center Robert Tucker (Philadelphia, PA/Paul Robeson) paced the Blue Jays with 12 first-half points.  Both schools scored 40 points in the second half.  Tucker led both teams with 14 second-half points and Henry led Gwynedd Mercy with 11.

Individual Statistical Leaders: All five Blue Jays starters scored in double figures.  Tucker led both teams with a season high 26 points.  He also pulled down a season-high 18 rebounds.  Sophomore guard/forward Taleek Anderson (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) scored 15 points.  Funchess added 14 points.  Freshman forward/center Kuresse Rodgers (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) scored 12.  Rodriguez contributed 10 points and tied a season high with six assists.

Henry led Gwynedd Mercy Junior Varsity with 24 points.  Junior guard Matt Carter contributed 15 points and freshman Manny Clark scored 14 points off the bench for the Griffins.

Series Record (since 1994-1995, but, the 2001-2002 season is unavailable): Manor is 1-0 versus Gwynedd Mercy Junior Varsity.  The Blue Jays are 10-5 overall (2-0 at home) versus Junior Varsity teams since the 2008-2009 season.

Next Game: Manor travels on the road to play NJCAA Region XIX Division II Bucks County Community College 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 26 in Newtown, Pennsylvania.  The Blue Jays are 16-4 overall (8-2 on the road) versus the Centurions (since 1994-1995, but, the 2001-2002 season is unavailable).  Manor lost its previous meeting to Bucks County, 74-70, on the road on January 22, 2019, breaking a 13-game series winning streak.  This is the Centurions' second season at the Division II level.

Next Home Game:  Manor hosts NJCAA Region XIX Division II Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5.  The Blue Jays are 11-11 overall (6-5 at home) versus Delaware Technical.  Manor won its previous meeting versus Stanton, 109-77, at home on February 8, 2019.  The Blue Jays have won nine straight versus Delaware Technical, including five consecutive wins at home.
