MANOR MEN’S BASKETBALL FINISHES REGULAR SEASON WITH DOUBLE OVERTIME ROAD WIN AT THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF PHILADELPHIA

PHILADELPHIA, PA—Manor College Blue Jays (9-16) freshman guard DaShawn Hockaday's (Philadelphia, PA/Dobbins) layup with under five seconds left in the second overtime helped defeat the County College of Philadelphia Colonials (13-13), 92-91, in the final regular season game for both teams.

The Blue Jays led at halftime, 35-32.  Freshman center Robert Tucker (Philadelphia, PA/Paul Robeson) led both teams with 13 points and sophomore forward Carl Robinson (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) added 11.  Robinson and Tucker combined to score 24 of Manor's 35 first-half points.

The Colonials outscored the Blue Jays, 35-32, in the second half.  Freshman Haji Kande's (East Orange, NJ/East Orange) layup, with an assist by sophomore guard Jewel Funchess (Philadelphia, PA/Olney), gave Manor a 67-65 lead with 11 seconds left in regulation.  However, freshman forward Jordan Smith's jump shot, with an assist by freshman guard Akil Byrd, tied the game at 67 with two seconds left in regulation, and sent the game into overtime.  Tucker and Colonial sophomore guard Ishmael Marshall led both of their teams with 17 second-half points each.

Marshall's steal and layup with 22 seconds left in the first overtime gave the Colonials an 80-78 lead.  Funchess tied the game at 80 with 12 seconds left and forced a second overtime.  Both teams scored 13 points in the first overtime.

Hockday's layup gave Manor a 92-90 lead in the second overtime.  However, after the go-ahead basket, Marshall was fouled outside the three-point line with no time remaining.  Marshall's first free throw hit the front of the rim and the second went in the basket.  After Manor called a time full time out, Marshall's third free throw went off the rim.  Manor outscored the Community College of Philadelphia, 12-11 in the second overtime, en route to the victory.  Byrd scored 13 of the 24 Colonials' points in both overtimes.  Tucker led Manor with 10 points during both overtimes. 

Manor finished the season winning four straight and six of the last seven games in February after a winless January (0-6) and starting the season at 3-15.

Manor finished the season 9-16 overall and 5-9 on the road (not including 0-1 on neutral sites) during the 2018-2019 season.  The Blue Jays won three consecutive road games after starting the season on the road at 2-8.  They are 48-90 on the road and 3-6 on neutral sites since they began playing in the NJCAA for the 2008-2009 season.

Individual Statistical Leaders: Tucker led Manor with 40 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Kande came off the bench with a "double-double," contributing 12 points and 14 rebounds.  He shared the team lead with five assists with Funchess.

Marshall led the Community College of Philadelphia with 30 points and three steals.  Byrd scored 25 and paced both teams with six assists.  He shared the team lead with 11 rebounds with freshman forward John Bennett, who was coming off the bench.  Freshman guard Khyree Lloyd scored 16 points and Smith added 12 for the Colonials.

Final games for Robinson and Romero: Robinson scored 11 points and contributed seven rebounds in his final game for the Blue Jays.  He averaged 10.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game in his only season for Manor.  Freshman guard Jose Romero also played his final game for the Blue Jays.  He averaged 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds per game in his only season for Manor.

Series Record (since the 1994-1995 season, but, 2001-2002 season is unavailable): Manor is 10-27 versus the Community College of Philadelphia.  They are also 5-17 on the road.  The Blue Jays broke a five road-game losing streak at the Colonials.  Manor previously won at the Community College of Philadelphia on December 10, 2005 (79-69).

Manor versus NJCAA Division III Opponents: The Blue Jays finished the season 2-1 NJCAA Division III schools, including 2-0 on the road.  They are 18-9 overall since the 2008-2009 season, including 5-7 on the road.

Leading at Halftime: Manor finished the season 5-7 when leading at halftime this season (including 2-3 on the road).

Manor in Overtime Games: The Blue Jays finished the season 2-2 in overtime games this season, including 2-0 on the road.  They are 2-0 in double overtime contests this season, with both games coming on the road.  Overall, Manor is 4-13 in overtime games since the 2008-2009 season, including 2-5 on the road.  The Blue Jays are also 2-2 double overtime games, with all of its games on the road.
