MANOR MEN’S BASKETBALL LOSES TO LACKAWANNA COLLEGE

JENKINTOWN, PA—Lackawanna College (14-7 Overall, 7-2 NJCAA Region XIX Division II) freshman guard Talek Williams led both teams with 29 points as the Falcons defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (3-14, 3-8), 99-74.

Lackawanna never trailed in this game and led at halftime, 50-32.  Sophomore guard Jewel Funchess (Philadelphia, PA/Olney) led Manor 14 first-half points.  The Falcons also outscored the Blue Jays in the second half, 49-43.  Freshman center Robert Tucker (Philadelphia, PA/Paul Robeson) paced the Blue Jays with 14 second-half points.  Freshman guard Maleek View (Philadelphia, PA/Central) scored 13.

The loss eliminated Manor from an opportunity to compete in the NJCAA Region XIX Division II Postseason Tournament.  This is the first time the Blue Jays will not be in the postseason since the 2013-2014 season, breaking a four-season streak.

Individual Statistical Leaders: Tucker, who led Manor with 20 points, also paced the team with eight rebounds and two blocked shots.  He also shot seven for 11 from the field.  View finished with 16 points and Funchess added 15.  Sophomore forward Carl Robinson (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) led the Blue Jays with four steals.

Williams shot 10 of 13 from the field, paced both teams with five assists, and contributed six steals.  Sophomore guard Isaiah Wiggins added 27 points and led both teams with eight steals.  Wiggins and Williams each led Lackawanna with seven rebounds.  Sophomore guard J'von Winslow scored 10 points.  Freshman forward Ricki Lopez-Mercedes led both benches with 10 points.

Series Record (since 1994-1995, but, the 2001-2002 season is unavailable): The Blue Jays are 6-17 overall (including three straight losses) versus the Falcons, including 5-6 at home.  Lackawanna won at Manor for the first time February 14, 2013 (96-85 in overtime), breaking a six-game losing streak.  The Blue Jays were swept by the Falcons in a season series for the first time since the 2012-2013 season.  The 25-point loss is the largest in this season for the first time February 12, 2011 (90-62).

Next Game: Manor travels to play Region XX Division II and Maryland JUCO member Cecil College (11-9) 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 28 in North East, Maryland.  The Blue Jays are 3-3 overall (1-2 on the road) versus the Seahawks.  Manor won the previous match-up, 100-97, on February 27, 2018 (at Manor).  The Blue Jays lost the previous road contest, 72-60, on November 2, 2016.  This is a make-up game from November 15, 2018.  Manor is 8-9 overall (2-5 on the road) versus Region XX schools since the 2008-2009 season.

Next Home Game: Manor hosts NJCAA Region XIX Division II Delaware Technical Community College-Stanton 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7.  The Blue Jays are 10-11 overall versus the Spirit, including eight straight wins.  They are also 7-3 at home versus Stanton, including four consecutive victories.  The Blue Jays won the first match-up this season, 102-94, in double overtime, on November 20, 2018 in Newark, Delaware.  Manor also won the previous home match-up, 86-80, on December 7, 2017.
