JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (3-9 Overall, 3-4 NJCAA Region XIX Division II) sophomore guard Jewel Funchess (Philadelphia, PA/Olney) led both teams with 15 points, as the Blue Jays defeated the Bucks County Community College Centurions (2-10, 1-7), 65-56.
This is also Bucks County's first season as a Division II program after previously playing at the Division III level.
Manor led at halftime, 30-14. The 14 points are the fewest the Blue Jays allowed in the first half this season. Bucks County outscored Manor in the second half, 42-35.
The Blue Jay victory broke a five-game overall losing streak this season and a five-game home skid, dating back to the 2017-2018 season. They previously won at home on February 27, 2018 (100-97 versus Region XX Division II Cecil College). The Blue Jays last win at home versus a Region XIX Division II opponent was on February 22, 2018 (88-77 versus Mercer County Community College).
This was the final game before Manor goes on its Holiday Break.
Individual Statistical Leaders: Freshman guard Maleek View (Philadelphia, PA/Central) scored 10 points for Manor. Freshman center Robert Tucker (Philadelphia, PA/Paul Robeson) came off the bench, leading the Blue Jays with seven rebounds.
Sophomores Patrick McCauley (guard) and Elijah Pittman (forward/center) and freshman forward Keith Howard scored 13 points each for Bucks County.
Series Record (since 1994-1995, but, the 2001-2002 season is unavailable): The Blue Jays are 16-3 versus the Centurions, including 9-1 at home. This is the first meeting between the two schools as Division II programs.
Manor versus Region XIX Division II at Home: Manor is 1-2 this season at home versus Region XIX Division II schools. The Blue Jays are 21-5 since the 2014-2015 season. They are 46-35 since joining the NJCAA for the 2008-2009 season.
Next Game: Manor hosts Region XIX Division II County College of Morris 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019. The Blue Jays are 11-9 versus the Titans, including 6-4 at home (since 2008-2009). Manor was swept by the Titans during the 2017-2018 season. They lost at home, 97-86, on January 18, 2018 and on the road, 100-75, on January 27, 2018.
