MANOR MEN’S BASKETBALL DOMINATES COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF BALTIMORE COUNTY DUNDALK

JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (15-8) freshman guard Isaiah Wiggins (Pocono Mountain, PA/Pocono Mountain West) led both teams with 23 points as the Blue Jays defeated the Region XX Division II Community College of Baltimore County-Dundalk Lions (5-20), 91-63, in a non-conference match-up.

 

The first half featured seven ties and 13 lead changes.  Manor took nine of the lead changes, leading as much as by five (14-9) on freshman guard/forward Amir Hill's (Philadelphia, PA/Parkway) three-point basket, with an assist by sophomore guard Keithantonio Davis (Sicklerville, NJ/Eastern) with 14:16 left.  Dundalk took its first lead of the game, 19-18, with 10:52 remaining on a layup by sophomore guard Lamarr Mitchell.  The Lions took its fourth and final lead of the contest, 34-33, on a basket by freshman forward Christopher Fitzgerald, with an assist by freshman guard Richard Hibbert, with 2:12 left.  Dundalk never led by more than one point.  Manor took the lead for good, 37-35, on a Davis layup off of a Lion turnover with about 0:59 remaining.  The Blue Jays led 39-36 at halftime.  Sophomore guard Kobe Ancrum (Bridgeport, CT/Bassick) led both teams with 11 points.

 

The game continued to be close early in the second half.  Dundalk twice got within two points.  Hibbert's three point basket with 19:13 left made the score 41-39.  Following Hibbert's layup with 17:18 remaining that closed the gap to 45-43, Manor responded with a 17-5 run over a 6:00 stretch, and opened up a 62-48 lead with 11:18 left on Wiggins' basket, with an assist by Ancrum.  The Blue Jays took its first double-digit advantage during this run on Wiggins' basket, with another assist by Davis with 13:07 remaining.  Manor would maintain a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.  After Mitchell's layup got the Lions within 64-52 with 9:27 left, the Blue Jays answered with another 17-5 run, but, it was done in 4:39.  Manor expanded to its largest lead at the time, 81-57, with 4:48 remaining on freshman guard Dana Strothers' (Pittsburgh, PA/Obama Academy) three-point basket, with another assist by Davis.  Following, Fitzgerald's putback off of a missed shot with 3:50 left that made the score, 81-59, the Blue Jays finished the game on a 12-4 run.  Manor took its largest lead of the contest, 91-63, on its final scoring play on another Strothers' three-point basket with 0:16.3 remaining.  The Blue Jays outscored the Lions in the second half, 52-27, en route to the victory.  Wiggins led both teams with 21 points in the second half, while Strothers added 13.

 

Individual Statistical Leaders: Including Wiggins, five Blue Jays scored in double figures.  Strothers scored 22, while Hill and Ancrum contributed 18 and 11 points, respectively.  Davis paced both benches with 12 points.

 

Three of Dundalk's starters scored in double figures.  Hibbert led the Lions with 15 points, and McNair and Fitzgerald scored 13 points each.  Mitchell came off the bench to score 10 points.

 

Series Record: Series is tied at two.  This is the first time the Blue Jays defeated the Lions at home in three match-ups.

 

Manor versus Region XX Programs:  Manor improved its series record against Region XX schools to 7-8, including 5-6 at home.

 

Home Sweet Home: The Blue Jays improved to 9-2 at home this season.  They are 42-9 at home since the 2014-2015 season, including 28-4 versus Region XIX Division II schools.

 

Next Game: Manor travels to Nationally-Ranked Lackawanna College (20-4 Overall, 12-1 Region XIX Division II) 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018.  The Falcons are in first place in Region XIX Division II and are ranked 14th in the late NJCAA Division II Poll.  Manor is 6-14 versus Lackawanna.  The Blue Jays won once in nine road match-ups versus the Falcons (83-80 on January 9, 2016).  Manor won at home in its previous match-up versus Lackawanna, 81-74, on December 2, 2016.

 

Next Home Game: Manor hosts NJCAA Division I Harcum in a non-conference matchup 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018.  The Bears have won 10 of the 11 games versus the Blue Jays.  Manor defeated Harcum for the first time in its season series the last time they played against each other, 91-83, on February 2, 2017.  The Blue Jays lost to the Bears in its previous home match-up, 99-92, on January 28, 2016.
