MANOR MEN’S BASKETBALL WINS IN TRIPLE OVERTIME  VERSUS RARITAN VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE

JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (12-3 Overall, 7-0 Region XIX Division II) sophomore guard Keithantonio Davis (Sicklerville, NJ/Eastern) converts a layup with 13.7 seconds remaining as the Blue Jays defeated the Raritan Valley Community College Lions (8-4, 4-2), 108-107, in triple overtime.

Manor went on a 10-3 run over a 3:47 stretch and took a 10-6 lead with 15:18 remaining in the first half.  Freshman forward Javon Flynn's (Philadelphia, PA/Bartram) layup, with an assist by fellow freshman forward Anthony Thomas (Chester, PA/Chester), completed the run. Both teams also exchanged five leads until sophomore guard Kenyan Goodson's three-point basket with 11:21 left gave Raritan Valley the lead for the remainder of the first half, 19-16.  The Lions went on a 12-3 run between 10:27 and 6:18 remaining in the first half (4:09) and opened its largest lead of the game (33-23) on sophomore guard Rick'keem Mixson's layup and free throw.  Raritan Valley opened up another 10-point lead (36-26) on Mixon's jump shot and free throw with 4:34 remaining.  Manor then went on a 12-2 run over the next 3:59 and tied the game at 38 on freshman guard Isaiah Wiggins' (Pocono Mountain, PA/Pocono Mountain West) free throws with 0:36.8 left.  Mixson's layup with 0:09.1 remaining gave Raritan Valley the 40-38 halftime lead.  Sophomore guard Isaac Neal led both teams with 12 points and Mixson added 10 for the Lions.

After Wiggins made a three-point basket, on another Thomas assist, with 17:32 left in the second half to close the gap to one (45-44), the Lions scored six straight over the next 2:38.  Goodson's jump shot gave Raritan Valley its largest lead of the second half with 14:54 remaining in the second half, 51-44.  The Lions maintained as much as a six-point (60-54), and three five-point leads (64-59, 66-61, and 69-64) between 11:13 and 5:37 left in the second half.  The Blue Jays twice got within one point (72-71 and 74-73) on a freshman guard Ahrod Carter (Chester, PA/Chester) three-point basket and Flynn layup (both on Davis assists) with 3:50 and 3:14 remaining, respectively.  Davis' jump shot tied the game at 79 with 1:17 left.  Wiggins' layup (on another Davis assist as he was falling out of bounds, following his own missed jump shot) tied the game at 81 with 0:45.5 remaining.  Davis' missed jump shot with under two seconds left sent the game into overtime.  Manor outscored Raritan Valley in the second half, 43-41, and the score was tied at 81.

The Blue Jays took an 85-81 lead with 3:11 remaining in the first overtime on Flynn's jump shot.  Goodson's layup with 1:49 left got the Lions within one (85-84).  Manor answered on Flynn's layup with 1:26 remaining, with an assist by Davis.  Following a pair of Mixson free throws with 1:05 left, Manor took a three-point lead (89-86) on Davis' layup with 0:41.5 remaining.  Raritan Valley tied the game on Laurent's layup and free throw with 0:22.1 left.  Freshman forward Amadu Benbow's missed three-point attempt at the buzzer sent the game into a second overtime.  Both teams scored eight points in the first overtime and the score was tied at 89.

Manor scored seven straight points to open up the second overtime and led 96-89 on Flynn's dunk, with an assist by freshman guard Dana Strothers (Pittsburgh, PA/Obama Academy), with 2:45 remaining.  Mixon's layup off of a turnover closed the deficit to two (96-94) with 2:04 left.  Flynn's jumper off of a missed shot and free throw with 1:40 remaining opened up a five-point Blue Jay lead (99-94).  The Lions finished off the final 1:40 of the second overtime on a 7-2 run.  Goodson's three-point basket, with an assist by Mixson, with under five seconds left tied the game.  Strothers' three-point attempt hit off the backboard and sent the game into a third overtime.  Both teams scored 12 points in the second overtime and the score was tied at 101.


Raritan Valley opened up a 107-103 lead with 2:22 remaining in the third overtime on Laurent's layup.  Manor scored five straight to finish the game, including Davis' go-ahead layup with 0:13.7 left.  Freshman guard Kayton Darley's three-point attempt at the buzzer hit the back of the rim. The Blue Jays outscored the Lions in the third overtime, 7-6, en route to the 108-107 victory.  Flynn scored 14 points in the three overtimes.  Davis scored Manor's six of Manor's nine final points from late in the second and into the third overtime.  Altogether, Flynn and Davis scored 21 of the Blue Jays' 27 points in three overtimes.

Individual Statistical Leaders: Five Blue Jays scored in double-figures.  Flynn led both teams with 30 points.  Wiggins and Hill scored 22 and 11, respectively.  Davis and Carter contributed 18 and 13 points off the bench, respectively.

Five Lions also scored in double-figures, including four with 20 or more points: Goodson (25), Mixson (22), Neal (21 off the bench), and Laurent (20).  Amadu Benbow added 11.

100-Points Notes (since 1994-1995, but, the 2001-2002 season is unavailable): This is the fifth time this season and  the 55th time overall (42nd at home) the Blue Jays have scored 100 or more points in a game and the 23rd (16th at home) since they joined the NJCAA for the 2008-2009 season.  This is the second time Manor scored over 100 points versus Raritan Valley.  They scored 112 at home versus the Lions on November 14, 2014.  The Blue Jays last scored 100 or more points in consecutive games on January 20 and 22, 2015 when they scored 110 (versus Delaware Technical & Community College/Stanton-Wilmington) and 106 (at Division I Harcum College), respectively.  Manor has scored 100 seven times under second-year head coach Diallo Daniels.

Overtime Notes (since 2010-2011): Manor previously won in overtime on December 8, 2011 versus Delaware Technical & Community College/Stanton-Wilmington (80-76).  The victory also snapped a 10-game losing streak while playing in overtime.

Series Record: The Lions lead the season series 11-10 overall, but, the Blue Jays have won eight of the previous 10 meetings and nine of 12.  Manor is 6-5 at home versus Raritan Valley.

Next Game: Manor hosts the County College of Morris 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018.  The Lions lead the season series 11-7 overall, including six straight wins and seven of the last nine.  Manor is 6-3 at home versus Morris, including four consecutive victories.  The Blue Jays swept the 2016-2017 matchups.  The Blue Jays won at home, 90-84, on December 3, 2016 and on the road, 98-72, on January 14, 2017.
