MANOR MEN’S BASKETBALL EDGES CAMDEN COUNTY COLLEGE

JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (3-0 Overall) freshman guard Dana Strothers (Pittsburgh, PA/Obama Academy) came off the bench to score 15 points as they defeated the visiting Division III Camden County College Cougars (2-2), 78-77, in a non-conference game.

 

Freshman forward Anthony Thomas' (Chester, PA/Chester) layup off of a missed shot gave Manor its largest lead at the time (15-8) with 13:34 left in the first half.  Camden County answered with an 11-3 run over a 3:59 stretch that gave them its first lead of the game (19-18) with 9:35 left in the first half.  Sophomore guard Justin Williams finished the Cougars run with a layup off of a missed shot.  The Cougars took the lead (21-20) for the remainder of the half with 8:35 remaining on freshman guard/forward Julius Inge's jump shot.  Camden County led by five points (its largest lead of the game) four times (25-20, 30-25, 33-28, and 35-30) in the first half.  The Cougars led 35-31 at halftime.

 

Manor scored 10 straight points in the first 2:44 of the second half.  Altogether, the Blue Jays went on a 13-2 run over a 3:49 stretch over parts of two halves.  Manor took the lead for good (37-35) during this run on freshman guard Isaiah Wiggins' (Pocono Mountain, PA/Pocono Mountain West) tip in off of a missed shot with 19:04 left.  The Cougars climbed back to one point for the second time in the half (48-47) on Williams' layup and free throw with 13:26 remaining before the Blue Jays embarked on a 12-4 run over the next 3:43.  Freshman guard Christian Wright's (Baltimore, MD/Woodlawn) layup with 9:43 remaining completed the run and gave Manor its largest lead of the game (60-51).  The Cougars answered again with a 9-2 run over a 2:30 stretch.  Williams' free throw finished the run and got Camden County within two points (62-60) with 7:13 remaining.  The Blue Jays responded again with a 9-3 run over the next 3:43.  Freshman guard Ahrod Carter's (Chester, PA/Chester) free throws completed the run and gave Manor its second largest lead of the contest (71-63) with 4:30 left.  Wiggins' jump shot gave the Blue Jays a 75-68 advantage with 2:55 before the Cougars made another run.  Manor was held to one field goal for the remaining 2:55 of the contest.  Freshman guard/forward Harrison Reiger's jump shot off of a Manor turnover got Camden County to within one point for the third time in the half (78-77) with 0:10.2 remaining.  Sophomore guard/forward Matt Green's three-point attempt from near Manor's end of the court fell short at the buzzer.  The Blue Jays outscored the Cougars, 47-43, in the second half, en route to the 78-77 victory.

 

Individual Statistical Leaders: Four of the five Manor starters scored in double-figures.  Wiggins and Carter scored 12 points each.  Wright and freshman forward Javon Flynn (Philadelphia, PA/Bartram) contributed 10 points apiece.

 

Four of the five Camden County starters also scored in double-figures.  Williams led the team with 18 points, five assists, and two steals. Reiger scored 15.  Sophomore center Sanoussi Abdourhamane contributed 11 points, eight rebounds, and six blocked shots.  Inge added 10.

 

Series Record (since 1994-1995, but, the 2001-2002 season is unavailable): The season series is tied at one.  This was the first time Manor has hosted Camden County.

 

Next Game:  Manor plays Region XV Region I ASA-Brooklyn (4-0) 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 10 in the Monroe College Tournament in New Rochelle, New York.  This is the first matchup between the two schools.  The Blue Jays last participated in an in-season tournament in the 2010 Northampton Community College Tip-Off Tournament.

 

Next Home Game:  Manor hosts Lackawanna College 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2.  The Falcons lead the season series 14-5, but, the Blue Jays have won five of the last eight. Manor is 4-5 at home versus Lackawanna and has won four straight home contests against the Falcons.
