Manor College Men’s Basketball Upends Valley Forge Military College

JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (10-5 Overall, 4-4 NJCAA Region XIX Division II) sophomore guard Kuante Sargent (Baltimore, MD/Newtown) scored 21 points as they defeated Valley Forge Military College (6-8, 1-7), 79-64, for its fifth straight win.  

 

The Blue Jays largest first half lead was 18 points (36-18).  The Trojans responded and went on a 9-1 run to end the half, but, Manor led 37-27 at halftime.  Sargent led both teams with 12 points. 

 

Manor opened up the second half, scoring eight straight points that was topped off by freshman guard Benjamin Pratt's (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) jump shot. They continued to build upon its strong second half start when Sargent sank a pull-up three-point basket with 14:51 left in the second half (52-33).  The Blue Jays took its first 20-point lead (58-38) of the game on freshman forward Nijza Faison's (Philadelphia, PA/Dobbins) basket off of a miss with 12:20 remaining.  He scored another basket with an assist by freshman guard Kobe Ancrum (Bridgeport, CT/Bassick) to keep it at a 20-point margin (58-38). Manor sophomore forward Jordan Lomax' (Hartford, CT/Career Magnet) basket with 9:18 left maintained the team's 20-point margin (62-42).  His jumper and free throw made extended the Blue Jay lead to 22 points (65-43) with 7:38 remaining in the game.  Sargent's basket on a Lomax assist with 7:07 left gave Manor its largest lead of the game (67-43).  Sophomore guard Calil Moultrie (Philadelphia, PA/Friere Charter) converted a pair of free throws which gave the Blue Jays a 23-point lead (69-46) with 6:08 left.  Trojan sophomore guard Dominick Morales' three-point basket with 1:14 remaining completed the team's scoring for the game (79-64).  Manor outscored Valley Forge Military College, 42-37, in the second half. The Blue Jays are 8-2 when leading at halftime.  Morales led both teams with 12 points and four three-point baskets made in the second half. 

 

Sargent was the only Blue Jay to score in double figures. He has scored in double-figures in 14 games and over 20 points in a game this season 12 times. Sophomore forward Brendan Wagner (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) led both teams with eight rebounds.  He also blocked two shots.  Moultrie came off the bench to contribute five assists.

 

Morales paced the Trojans with 20 points.  He led both teams with six three-point baskets and three blocked shots.  Sophomore guard Jordan McDay scored 14 and added five assists. Fellow sophomore guard Deonte Ramsey added 11 points contributed three steals along with sophomore forward Tyler Knight.

 

Manor shot over 50.0% for the game (52.9) for the third time this season.  They outrebounded Valley Forge Military College, 44-29.  The Trojans made double-digit three-point baskets (10) for the fourth time this season. 

 

The Blue Jays are 5-0 at home to start this season.  Manor last won five straight to start the season at home during the 2007-2008 season when they were in the EPCC.  The Blue Jays finished that season undefeated at home (11-0). They last won five straight at home between December 10, 2015 and January 14, 2016 and finished the season 10-3 at home.

 

Manor finished December with a 6-1 record after a 4-4 November.  They were 5-1 in December, 2015.  Manor also had ten victories (10-1) before its Holiday Break last season. 

 

The Blue Jays improves its series record to 6-0 overall and 3-0 at home versus the Trojans. 

 

Manor's next game is at home versus Region XIX Division II County College of Morris (3-10 Overall, 1-5 Region XIX Division II) 3:00 p.m. January 14, 2017.  The Blue Jays are 9-7 overall and 5-3 at home versus the Titans.  Manor swept Morris during the 2015-2016 season, 100-71 (November 7, 2015 at home) and 97-61 (February 16, 2016 on the road).  They have won four straight overall and five of the previous six versus the Titans.  Manor have won three straight home games versus Morris and four of the previous five.
