JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (3-3) sophomore guard Kuante Sargent (Baltimore, MD/Newtown) and freshman guard Kobe Ancrum (Bridgeport, CT/Bassick) each scored 20 points as they defeated the Eastern University Junior Varsity, 102-70, in non-conference action. The Blue Jays scored 100 points in a game for the first time this season. They scored 100 or more points in a game five times during the 2015-2016 season.

 

The Blue Jays took the lead for good (5-4) on a pair of Ancrum free throws with 17:10 left in the first half.  Ancrum's layup off of a steal with 13:32 left completed a 10-0 run. The Eagles, who are NCAA Division III, closed the gap to four points (32-28) with 4:58 remaining.  Manor responded by finishing the half on a 13-2 run over the final 3:04. Sargent's dunk (with an assist by freshman forward Nizja Faison [Philadelphia, PA/Dobbins]) with 12.4 seconds left completed the Blue Jays' scoring for the first half. They led at halftime, 53-35. 

 

Manor opened the second with a 12-4 run in the first 4:32 of the second half.  Freshman guard Devon Banks' (Woodbridge, VA/Upper Room Christian) jump shot with 15:38 left in the game improved Manor's lead to 65-39.  Following an Eastern layup, the Blue Jays scored a dozen straight points over a 2:01 stretch.  Freshman guard Dequincy Reed's (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) layup off a steal gave Manor its largest lead of the game (77-41) with 13:04 remaining. The Blue Jays maintained a 30-point plus lead for most of the remainder of the game. Freshman center Angel Flores' (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) layup, with an assist by Banks, gave the Blue Jays its largest lead of the game again (84-48) with 9:16 remaining. Following a Manor College time out, Flores' dunk (with another assist by Banks) brought the Blue Jays' bench and its fans to its feet. The closest the Eagles came was within 29 points on a three-point basket (92-63) with 4:45 left in the contest. Reed's free throw with 57.0 seconds remaining gave Manor a 100-68 lead.  The Blue Jays closed out their scoring on sophomore forward Jordan Lomax' (Hartford, CT/Career Magnet) jump shot, on a Reed assist, with 23.0 seconds left in the game. They dominated the Eagles in the second half, 49-35, and improved its road record to 2-3 on the season.

 

Sargent scored 20 or more points for the fifth straight game. This is the first time Ancrum has scored 20 or more points in a game.  Reed and freshman forward Tashawn Tokley (Camden, NJ/Met East) scored 13 and 10 off the bench, respectively. This is the first time Tokley has scored in double-figures in a contest.

 

The Blue Jays' 32-point margin of victory is the second time this season they have won by 30 or more in a game.  This the second season in a row they have won by 30 or more in a contest twice in the same season.  Manor has won by 30 or more points six times since the 2008-2009 season.

 

This is the Blue Jays' first game ever game versus the Eastern University Junior Varsity and improved its record to 17-12 overall versus junior varsity teams, including four straight victories. This is also the 48th time Manor has scored 100 or more points in a game (45-3).  Please note that this is since 1994-1995 and the 2001-2002 season is unavailable.  Since Manor became NJCAA members in the 2008-2009 season, they are 6-5 versus junior varsity programs.  This is the 17th time they have scored 100 or more points in a game since the 2008-2009 campaign (14-3). 

 

Manor's next game is versus Essex County College (5-0 Overall, 1-0 NJCAA Region XIX Division II) 3:00 p.m. November 19, 2016.  The Blue Jays are 3-15 overall and 0-8 at on the road versus the Wolverines. Essex County are the four-time defending Region XIX Division II Postseason Tournament Champions.  The Wolverines are ranked fourth in the NJCAA Division II Preseason Poll and collected two first-place votes.
