JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (1-1) sophomore guard Kuante Sargent (Baltimore, MD/Newtown) scored a career-high 25 points and fellow sophomore Calil Moultrie (Philadelphia, PA/Friere Charter) added 22, 11 assists, and a career-high seven steals as they routed Cumberland County College (0-1), 99-61, in non-conference action. This was also Diallo Daniels' first collegiate head coaching victory.
The Blue Jays never trailed during this game. They led at halftime, 48-35. Moultrie's layup (with an assist by freshman guard Benjamin Pratt [Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic]) increased Manor's lead to 63-37 with 15:57 remaining in the game. Sophomore guard Robby Pierre's (Irvington, NJ/Union Catholic) free throws with 11:22 left made it a 30-point game (74-44). Freshman guard Dequincy Reed's (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) three-point basket increased the lead to 87-50 with 6:30 remaining. The Blue Jays took its largest lead of the game (99-59) with 1:02 left on Moultrie's free throws. They dominated the Dukes in the second half, 51-26, and won its third straight home opener. Manor shot well as a team from the field (54.0%), three-point (56.0%), and the free throw (81.0%) lines.
Sargent scored 20 or more points for the first time in his career. This was the second time Moultrie has scored 20 or more points in a game. He also contributed his fifth career "double-double" in points and assists. Pratt scored 11 and Reed added 17 off the bench. Sophomore forward Jordan Lomax (Hartford, CT/Career Magnet) pulled down 11 rebounds off the bench to lead Manor. This is Lomax' fourth career double-digit rebounding effort.
Freshman forward Haashim Wallace led the Dukes with 21 points. Fellow freshmen Marquis Wilson (guard) added 17 and Che'Quan Hargrose (guard/forward) contributed 11 off the bench.
The Blue Jays' 38-point margin of victory is the largest since January 20, 2015 (110-68 versus Delaware Technical and Community College-Stanton/Wilmington) and the second highest overall since Manor joined the NJCAA for the 2008-2009 season. This is largest home opening win since November 23, 2004 (94-62 versus Lehigh Carbon Community) and the second highest since 1994-1995 (117-59 versus Bucks County Community College on November 21, 2000).
This is the Blue Jays' first game ever versus Cumberland County and are 13-8 in home openers. Please note that this is since 1994-1995 and the 2001-2002 season is unavailable. Since Manor became NJCAA members in the 2008-2009 season, they are 10-7 versus Division III schools.
Manor's next home game is versus Mercer County Community College 7:00 p.m. December 8, 2016. The Blue Jays are 8-9 overall and 5-3 at home versus the Vikings.
