For the Blue Jays, this season means a lot. They have a
new coach, coach Alfred Johnson, who brings an impressive coaching
resume with him and a fresh attitude and outlook for the team.
Last weekend, when the Blue Jays travelled to Cecil College,
they knew they were in for a touch game. Coach Johnson says,
“The energy going into the game was high. Both the team and
the coaching staff were looking forward to playing someone other
than ourselves, and the team was excited about playing Cecil
College since there was talk about Cecil having a host of Division
1 talent.”
Manor was down by four points going into halftime after a nail
biting first half, and knew they had to make a change if they were
going to come out on top. Key player, Marcus Glover, scoring
19 points says, “We just had first game jitters, and we are
still learning how to play together.”
Another key player and top scorer of the night, netting 30
points, Tom Farrior, says, “During the second half, we were
more aggressive on the offense and defense side, not rushing the
shots and making smarter decisions throughout.” By
making smart shot decisions and being patient during the second
half, led the Blue Jays to a win, beating Cecil College 97 –
89.
When asked what he is most looking forward to this
season, key player Joel Carpenter, scoring 16 points says
“I’m looking forward to bring a championship back to
Manor.”
Looking forward to this season, Coach Johnson says, “At
practice, we will continue to spend a great deal of time on
defensive drills. We always work on skill development and then once
we get a scouting report, we practice to defend against their
better habits.”
Congrats to the Blue Jays on their first win of the
season. Catch the men in their next game at Penn State York
on November 8 at 3 p.m. Be sure to come out and cheer on the
Blue Jays in their home opener game on Monday, November 10 at 7
p.m. when they take on Williamson Trade.
