MANOR COLLEGE BASEBALL LOSES GAME TWO OF A NON-CONFERENCE HOME DOUBLEHEADER VERSUS PATRICK HENRY COLLEGE

JENKINTOWN, PA—Patrick Henry College (2-4) scored runs in five of the first six innings as the Sentinels defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (1-6), 14-9, in game two of a non-conference doubleheader at Alverthorpe Park.

This doubleheader was originally scheduled for March 23.

Patrick Henry sent 11 hitters to bat in the top of the first, scoring five runs, including four with two out.  Manor scored in the bottom half.  Freshman Yerlad Duran (Philadelphia, PA/Abraham Lincoln) led off with a walk off of sophomore starting pitcher Ryan Slemmer.  Duran stole second and advanced to third on junior catcher Spencer Hamilton's throwing error.  Freshman center fielder Jimmy Garcia's (Philadelphia, PA/Community Academy of Philadelphia) single to junior center fielder Chris Ziemnick scored Duran.  

The Blue Jays scored another run in the second.  Freshman right fielder Manny Roach (Medford, NJ/Life Center Academy) led off with an infield single to Slemmer and stole second.  Three batters later, Duran's two-out single to Ziemnick scored Roach to close the gap to 5-2.

Patrick Henry scored twice with two out in the top of the third and took a 7-2 lead. Manor scored twice in the third.  Senior third baseman Eddie Fortescue Jr (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) led off with an infield single to Slemmer and stole second and third.  Freshman shortstop Juan Regalado (Philadelphia, PA) was hit by a Slemmer pitch with one out and stole second.  Freshman first baseman Imanol Moronta's (Philadelphia, PA/Community Academy of Philadelphia) walk loaded the bases.  Roach's single to Ziemnick scored Fortescue Jr and reloaded the bases.  Freshman second baseman Almanie Reyes Torres' (Philadelphia, PA/Abraham Lincoln) two-out sacrifice fly to junior left fielder Jimmy Canfield scored Regalado.

The Sentinels increased their lead to 8-4 with a run in the top of the fourth.  The Blue Jays closed the deficit to one in the bottom half.  Duran led off with his second walk of the game and stole second for his second stolen base of the game.  Garcia walked.  Fortescue Jr reached on a fielder's choice to sophomore third baseman Peter Smith and Garcia advanced to second on the play. Fortescue Jr and Garcia executed a double-steal. Fortescue stole second for his fourth stolen base of the game and Garcia stole third.  Freshman catcher Anthony Ortiz (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Towne Charter) was hit by a Slemmer pitch, loading the bases with one out.  Moronta was hit by another Slemmer pitch, scoring Garcia.  Roach's bases-loaded walk scored Ortiz and knocked Slemmer out of the game.

Patrick Henry batted around, scored three times in the top of the fifth, and led 11-7.  Manor answered in the bottom half of the inning with two unearned runs off of freshman relief pitcher Isaac Cullum.  Duran led off, reaching second on junior shortstop David Stokarski's two-base throwing error.  Fortescue's one-out single to Ziemnick advanced Duran to third.  Fortescue stole second for his fifth stolen base of the game.  Ortiz reached on Stokarski's fielding error, his second of the inning, allowing Duran and Fortescue Jr to score on the play, and closed the gap to 11-9.

The Sentinels sent eight hitters to bat in the top of the sixth and scored three two-out runs.

Batting Leaders: Fortescue Jr had two hits, stole five bases, and scored three runs.  Duran walked twice, stole two bases, and scored two runs.  Roach contributed two hits and knocked in two runs.  Reyes Torres had two RBI.

Stokarski had two stolen bases and scored two runs.  Ziemnick walked twice and knocked in two runs.  Hamilton walked twice and stole two bases.  Canfield knocked in two runs.  Cullum and Smith scored three runs each.  

Pitching Leaders: Rivera (0-1) struck out four in four innings.  Garcia finished the game in relief for Manor, striking out seven, and allowing one hit.

Slemmer started and struck out six in 3 ⅔ innings.  Cullum (2-1) won the game in relief, striking out two in 1 ⅓ innings.  He won both games of the doubleheader.  Stokarski finished the game, pitching two scoreless relief innings, allowing three singles.

Season Series: Manor is 0-2 overall (0-2 at home) versus Patrick Henry .

Manor at Home: The Blue Jays are 1-4 this season at home.

Next Games: Manor travels to play National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Division III Delaware County Community College Phantoms (1-11 as of April 13) for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 18 at 1 p.m. in Media, Pennsylvania.  The Phantoms won the previous meeting this season on March 21, 7-2, in Media.  The Blue Jays won the first meeting, 12-11, on March 9, at Alverthorpe Park in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.  Manor is 2-4 overall versus Delaware County (0-2 on the road).

Next Home Games: The Blue Jays host the Bucks County Community College Centurions (2-14 Overall, 2-5 Eastern States Athletic Conference as of April 13) for an ESAC home doubleheader on Tuesday, April 23 at 11 a.m. at Roslyn Park in Abington, Pennsylvania.  The Blue Jays are 1-2 overall versus the Centurions. This is Manor's first home match-up versus Bucks County.
