MANOR COLLEGE BASEBALL LOSES GAME ONE OF A NON-CONFERENCE HOME DOUBLEHEADER VERSUS PATRICK HENRY COLLEGE

JENKINTOWN, PA—Patrick Henry College's (1-4) first five hitters combined for nine hits, 13 runs, 10 runs batted in, and six stolen bases as the Sentinels defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (1-5), 18-6, in five innings, game one of a doubleheader at Alverthorpe Park.

This doubleheader was originally scheduled for March 23.

Manor scored in the bottom of the first when freshman center fielder Jimmy Garcia (Philadelphia, PA/Community Academy of Philadelphia) doubled to junior left fielder Jimmy Canfield with one out. Senior third baseman Eddie Fortescue Jr (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) singled to Canfield and advanced Garcia to third.  Freshman catcher Anthony Ortiz (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Towne Charter) hit a ground ball to sophomore second baseman Ryan Slemmer.  Slemmer threw to junior catcher Spencer Hamilton, but Garcia beat Hamilton's tag to score the Blue Jays' first run.  

Patrick Henry took the lead in the top of the second.  Freshman starting pitcher Isaac Cullum led off with a double to freshman left fielder Yerlad Duran (Philadelphia, PA/Abraham Lincoln).  Hamilton followed with a double to sophomore right fielder Jacob Torres (Mays Landing, NJ/Cedar Creek), scoring Cullum.  Hamilton stole third. Slemmer walked.  Canfield's sacrifice fly to Garcia, scored Hamilton and gave the Sentinels a 2-1 lead.

The Sentinels batted around twice in the third, scoring 14 runs.  They added a run each in the fourth and fifth.

The Blue Jays scored a run in the fourth.  Freshman first baseman-pitcher Christopher Colella (Philadelphia, PA/Bishop McDevitt) walked with one out off of freshman third baseman Peter Smith.  Torres reached on a fielder's choice, junior shortstop Eli Grubke to Slemmer. Torres stole second and Duran and Garcia walked in consecutive plate appearances to load the bases.  Fortescue Jr's two-out, bases-loaded walk scored Torres.

Manor scored four in the fifth.  Freshman shortstop Juan Regalado (Philadelphia, PA) led off with a single to junior center fielder Chris Ziemnick.  Regalado stole second.  Freshman pitcher-second baseman Almanie Reyes Torres (Philadelphia, PA/Abraham Lincoln) and freshman second baseman-first baseman Imanol Moronta (Philadelphia, PA/Community Academy of Philadelphia) walked on consecutive plate appearances to load the bases..  Colella's bases-loaded walk scored Regalado and knocked Smith out of the game.  Torres' bases-loaded walk off of Grubke scored Reyes Torres.  Duran's single to Canfield scored Moronta.  Garcia's fielder's choice to Smith, scored Colella with two out.

Batting Leaders: Fortescue Jr contributed two hits and stole two bases.  Garcia and Regalado walked twice and stole two bases each. Colella walked two times.   Duran and Ortiz stole two bases each for Manor.

Junior first baseman David Stokarski had two hits, scored twice, and knocked in four runs.  Cullum and Hamilton had two hits, two RBI, stole three bases, and scored three runs each.  Grubke contributed two hits, scored two runs, and knocked in two.  Slemmer stole two bases and had three RBI.  Ziemnick scored twice and had two RBI.  Canfield knocked in three runs.  Smith scored three runs for Patrick Henry.

Pitching Leaders: Cullum (1-1) allowed one run in three innings.   Grubke finished the game in relief, pitching a scoreless inning for Patrick Henry.

Season Series: This is the first game between the two schools.
