MANOR DEFEATED IN FINAL REGULAR SEASON HOME GAME BY BERGEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE

JENKINTOWN, PA—Region XIX Division III Bergen Community College (16-13 Overall, 7-9 Region XIX Division III) scored in three of the first four innings and kept its postseason hopes alive as the Bulldogs and defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (5-22, 3-12), 17-2, in game two of a double header at Lighthouse Field.

This was also be the final home game for the following seven Blue Jay sophomores are: Infielder Sauriel Baez (Philadelphia, PA/Esperanza Charter), right fielder Cristian Diaz (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Towne Charter), catcher Abimael Mercado (Philadelphia, PA/Juan Ponce De Leon [PR]), first baseman Hector Morales (Philadelphia, PA/Esperanza Charter), infielder/outfielder Abdur Mujahid (Philadelphia, PA/Boys Latin), infielder Jorge Reyes (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast), and shortstop Jose Romero (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford).

The first six Bergen hitters reached base in the first.  Freshman shortstop Elian Guzman led off the game with a home run.  Sophomore first baseman Evan Geisler contributed a RBI single.  Freshman designated hitter Jason Romero added a RBI double.  Sophomore second baseman Anthony Laureano contributed a RBI single.  Freshman Gregory Dominguez added a two-out, RBI ground out.  Altogether, the Bulldogs sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs in the inning.

Bergen picked up where they left off in the first.  Laureano contributed one-out, RBI ground out.  Sophomore right fielder Martin Lucibello added a two-out, sacrifice fly.  Sophomore center fielder Adrian Alarcon hit a two-run RBI double.  The Bulldogs sent 11 to bat in the inning and scored six runs.

Manor scored its runs in the third.  Freshman third baseman Eddie Colon (Philadelphia, PA/Olney Charter) led off the inning getting hit by a pitch by sophomore starting pitcher Christian Guzman (1-2).  Freshman center fielder Shawn Vega's (Philadelphia, PA/Olney Charter) one-out single to right advanced Colon to second.  Romero's single to center loaded the bases.  Guzman's balk scored Colon and moved Vega to third and Romero and second.  Morales' single to center scored Vega and moved Romero to third.

The Bulldogs scored six runs in the fourth and sent 10 batters to hit in the inning.  Laureano contributed a one-out, two-out double.  Freshman catcher Gerald Sandoval added a two-out, two-run single to finish off Bergen's scoring.

Batting Leaders: Vega and Romero each went one-for-three.  Morales went one-for-two with a RBI for the Blue Jays.

Pitching Leaders: Baez (1-3) started the game and freshman Yadier Cedeno (Philadelphia, PA/Olney Charter) finished it in relief for the Blue Jays.

Christian Guzman pitched a complete game, allowing three hits, two runs, three runs, while striking out seven for the Bulldogs.

Manor at Home: The Blue Jays finished the season with a 1-5 home record (1-4 Region XIX Division III, 1-4 EPAC).  They are 1-9 at home (1-8, 1-8) since Manor made its debut in 2018.

Next Game: Manor travels on the road to play a Region XIX Division III and Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) doubleheader at Valley Forge Military College (2-8, 1-7, 1-6 EPAC) on Sunday, May 5 in Wayne, Pennsylvania at Noon.  The Blue Jays were swept in a road doubleheader on April 29, 2018, 8-7 and 14-2.  This is a make-up from Saturday, April 13.
