MANOR LOSES GAME ONE OF A DOUBLEHEADER VERSUS BERGEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE

PHILADELPHIA, PA—Region XIX Division III Bergen Community College (15-13 Overall, 6-9 Region XIX Division III) scored a combined 11 runs in the sixth and innings as the Bulldogs pull away from the Blue Jays and defeated Manor College (5-21, 3-11), 16-5, in game one of a double header at Lighthouse Field.

Bergen opened the scoring in the first inning and Manor tied it in the bottom half.  Sophomore shortstop Jose Romero (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) reached on a one out, infield single off of freshman starting pitcher Brayan Villar (2-1).  Sophomore first baseman Hector Morales' (Philadelphia, PA/Esperanza Charter) walk advanced Romero to second.  Sophomore designated hitter Jorge Reyes' (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) walk loaded the bases.  Sophomore second baseman Sauriel Baez' (Philadelphia, PA/Esperanza Charter) sacrifice fly to right scored Romero to tie the game.

The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the second on RBI doubles by freshman third baseman Gerald Sandoval (none out) and freshman shortstop Elian Guzman (one out). Bergen scored a two-out run in the third.

The Blue Jays cut the Bulldogs lead in half in the third.  Romero led off the inning with a single to right and Morales was hit by a pitch.  Reyes loaded the bases on an infield single to short that deflected off of Villar.  Baez' double play ground out to short scored Romero and moved Morales to third.

Bergen scored in the fifth on a two-out, solo home run by freshman designated hitter Jason Romero.  The Bulldogs sent 10 hitters to bat in the sixth, scoring six runs, including five with two out.  Sandoval knocked in a run on a fielder's choice ground out.  Freshman left fielder Gregory Dominguez followed with a RBI single.  Sophomore center fielder Adrian Alarcon cleared the bases with a triple.

Manor scored twice in the sixth.  Freshman left fielder Alex Bautista's (Philadelphia, PA/Swenson Arts & Technology) led off the inning, reaching on a Sandoval fielding error.  Freshman relief pitcher Eddie Colon (Philadelphia, PA/Olney Charter) walked and advanced Bautista to second.  Villar was replaced by freshman Adriel Correa.  Freshman right fielder Xavier Delgado (Philadelphia, PA/MaST Charter) walked to load the bases.  Freshman center fielder Shawn Vega (Philadelphia, PA/Olney Charter)  ground out to second scored Bautista and moved Colon to third and Delgado to second.  Romero's ground out to short scored Colon and advanced Delgado to third with two out.

The Bulldogs batted around in the seventh, scoring five runs.  Freshman pinch-hitter John Biggiani contributed a none-out RBI triple.  Sophomore catcher Andy Iglesias added a one-out sacrifice fly.  Dominguez hit a two-out, two run home run.  Alarcon finished off Bergen's scoring with a RBI triple.

The Blue Jays scored twice in the seventh.  Baez led off the inning with an infield single to first.  Sophomore catcher Abimael Mercado's (Philadelphia, PA/Juan Ponce De Leon [PR]) walk advanced Baez to second.  Colon's one-out, infield single to short loaded the bases.  Delgado's walk scored Baez on the play and moved Mercado to third and Delgado to second.

Batting Leaders: Romero went two-for-four with two runs scored.  Morales walked three times and was hit by a pitch.  Reyes singled and walked.  Colon went two-for-two with two walks and a run scored.  Delgado walked three times and contributed a RBI for the Blue Jays.

Guzman went two-for-four (including two doubles) with two walks.  Alarcon went three-for-five (including a double and triple) with three RBI.  Romero homered, walked three times, and scored three runs.  Iglesias knocked in two runs and scored twice.  Sophomore right fielder Martin Lucibello walked twice.  Sandoval contributed a double, two walks, two RBI, and scored three runs.  Dominguez went two-for-five (including a home run) with two runs scored and three RBI for the Bulldogs.

Pitching Leaders: Sophomore Abdur Mujahid (Philadelphia, PA/Boys Latin) (0-2) started the game and pitched five innings.  Colon finished the game in relief for the Blue Jays.

Villar started the game and pitched five innings, allowing an earned run, on three hits, and struck out five.  Correa finished up the game, allowing an unearned run on one hit in two innings for the Bulldogs.
