MANOR LOSES SECOND GAME OF DOUBLEHEADER AT CORNING COMMUNITY COLLEGE

CORNING, NY—Region III Division III Corning Community College Red Barons (2-4) sophomore shortstop Victor Torres went three-for-four (including a double and a triple), with three runs scored, three RBI, and two stolen bases they defeated the Manor College (2-6), 13-2, in five innings, in game two of a non-conference doubleheader.

Manor opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a run off of freshman starting and winning pitcher Chris Caughell.  Sophomore shortstop Jose Romero (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) tripled to right with one out and scored on a Hector Morales (Philadelphia, PA/Esperanza Charter) two-out sacrifice fly to center.

Corning answered with three runs in the bottom of the first.  Freshman center Josh Updyke (single and stolen base), Torres (triple), and freshman third baseman Zach Turner (double) reached base and scored for the Red Barons off of starting and losing pitcher Courtney Maddox (Philadelphia, PA/Edison).

The Blue Jays scored in the top of the second.  Freshman third baseman Eddie Colon (Philadelphia, PA/Olney Charter) singled with one out and stole second.  Sophomore left fielder Abdur Mujahid's (Philadelphia, PA/Boys Latin) two-out single to center scored Colon and got Manor within 3-2.

The Red Barons scored three in the third.  Freshman catcher Nate Caughell (walk), Updyke (fielder's choice and stolen base), Torres (single and stolen base) scored for Corning. Turner contributed a two-run single to single to left in the inning for the Red Barons.

Corning closed out its scoring in the fourth, scoring seven runs on five hits, and sent 12 hitters to bat in the inning.

Batting Leaders: Romero tripled, walked, and scored a run. Colon singled, stole a base, and scored a run.  Morales contributed a sacrifice fly and a walk for Manor.

Sophomore left fielder Gehrig Allen contributed three hits and two RBI.  Turner contributed two hits (including a double), three RBI, scored twice, and stole a base.  Updyke had two hits, three runs scored, and two RBI.  Nate Caughell added two walks and scored twice for Corning.

Pitching Leaders: Maddox (0-1) started the game.  Freshman relief pitcher Yadier Cedeno (Philadelphia, PA/Olney Charter) finished the game for the Blue Jays.

Chris Caughill pitched a complete game striking out six and allowing two hits and a walk for the Red Barons.

Next Game: Manor hosts NJCAA Region XIX Division III Middlesex County Community College in its home opening doubleheader on Sunday, March 24 at Noon at Lighthouse Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Manor splits its season-opening doubleheader versus the Colts, winning 10-4 and losing 12-0 (five innings), on March 27, 2018 in Edison, New Jersey.

Next Road Game: Manor plays the NJCAA Region XIX Division III Northampton Community College Spartans on Tuesday, March 26 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania at 3:30 p.m.  This is the first match-up between the two schools.
