MANOR WINS FIRST GAME OF DOUBLEHEADER AT CORNING COMMUNITY COLLEGE

CORNING, NY— Manor College (2-6) freshman third baseman Eddie Colon (Philadelphia, PA/Olney Charter) went four-for-five with two runs scored, a RBI, and two stolen bases as the Blue Jays defeated the Region III Division III Corning Community College Red Barons (1-4), 15-5, in game one of a non-conference doubleheader.

Manor opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a run off of sophomore starting and losing pitcher Carter Byington.  Freshman center fielder Shawn Vega (Philadelphia, PA/Olney Charter) led off the game with a walk and advanced to third on a stolen base and throwing error by freshman catcher Nate Caughell.  Sophomore shortstop Jose Romero's (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) sacrifice fly out to left scored Vega.

The Blue Jays broke the game open in the second, scoring six runs, on six hits, took advantage of two Corning errors, and sent 10 hitters to plate.  Sophomore third baseman Jorge Reyes (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) led off the inning with a double to left and moved to third Colon's single to left.  Sophomore left fielder Abdur Mujahid's (Philadelphia, PA/Boys Latin) one-out single to left scored Reyes which advanced Colon to third.  The Blue Jays pulled off a double steal scoring Colon and Mujahid stealing second.  Following freshman second baseman Xavier Delgado's (Philadelphia, PA/MAST Charter) walk and stolen base, Vega's single to center scored Mujahid and Delgado.  Vega advanced to second on freshman center fielder Josh Updyke's fielding error.  Vega scored on sophomore Gehrig Allen's throwing error after Romero reached on a single to left.  Sophomore first baseman Hector Morales' (Philadelphia, PA/Esperanza Charter) single to left scored Romero completed the scoring for the inning.

Manor added to its lead, scoring four times in the third.  Colon led off with a single to left and advanced to second on sophomore catcher Abimael Mercado's (Philadelphia, PA/Juan Ponce De Leon [PR]) ground out to third.  Mujahid's single to center scored Colon.  Delgado walked.  Vega reached on a fielder's choice to sophomore shortstop Victor Torres.  On the play, Torres' throwing error allowed Mujahid to score. Byington's wild pitch with Romero at bat scored Delgado and moved Vega to second.  Romero reached on another fielder's choice to Torres.  On the play, Torres' second throwing error of the inning allowed Vega to score the fourth run of the inning.  The Blue Jays led 11-0 after 2 ½ innings.

Corning scored its first two runs off of starting and winning pitcher Briant Ioya (Philadelphia, PA/Parkway Center City).  The Red Barons scored on a Torres none-out, two-run double to left which scored freshman right fielder Paden Burlison (hit-by-pitch) and Updyke (bunt single).

The Blue Jays scored once in the fifth.  Vega led off the inning with a single to center off of sophomore relief pitcher Cameron Luca and stole second.  Romero walked.  Morales reached on a fielder's choice to Torres, but, sophomore second baseman Parker May's throwing error allowed Vega to score his fourth run of the game.

Red Barons' Allen two-out single to right scored freshman third baseman Zach Turner (single) in the bottom of the fifth.

Manor closed out its scoring in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs.  Delgado led off with his third walk of the game and stole second for the second time in the contest and then stole third with one out.  Romero's single to center scored Delgado and stole second.  Morales' double to right scored Romero and advanced to third on Burlison's error. Following Reyes' infield single to third, Colon's fourth hit of the game, a single to left scored Morales.

Corning finished off its scoring in the bottom of the seventh.  Turner (double) scored on a one-out Ioya's wild pitch.  May's one-out single to right scored Allen (single).

Batting Leaders: Vega went three-for-five with four runs scored, two RBI, and two stolen bases.  Romero went two-for-three with two RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base.  Mujahid went two-for-four with two RBI and two runs scored and three stolen bases.  Reyes with two-for-four with a double and two runs scored.  Morales went two-for-five (including two doubles), two RBI and scored a run.  Delgado walked three times, scored three runs, and stole three bases for the Blue Jays.

Turner contributed two doubles, scored twice, and added two RBI.  May added two hits and had two RBI.  Parmeter, Updyke had two hits each for the Red Barons.

Pitching Leaders: Ioya (1-1) threw a complete game, striking out seven for Manor.

Corning starter Byington threw three innings.  Luca struck out seven in four innings in relief.
