MANOR LOSES TO LUZERNE COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN EPAC FINALE

JENKINTOWN, PA— Luzerne County Community College (5-22-1 Overall, 3-11-1 Region XIX Division III, 3-4-1 EPAC) sophomore third baseman Brandon Reno went three-for-four (including a home run), with three runs scored, and three RBI as the Trailblazers defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (2-19, 1-14, 0-8), 17-3, in seven innings in the final EPAC game for both schools.

The Trailblazers scored in five the six innings they batted.  They opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on RBI singles Reno (one out to left ) and freshman starting pitcher Ismael Lake (two out to center).

The Blue Jays tied game, scoring two runs in the top of the second.  Freshman shortstop Nicholas Hererra (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) led off the inning off of Lake, reaching base on sophomore center fielder Jossel Concepcion's missed catch error.  Herrera stole second.  Freshman center fielder Trevor Schmanek (Philadelphia, PA/St. Joseph's Prep) walked.  Herrera stole third and Schmanek moved up to second on the play with one out.  Freshman right fielder Courtney Maddox-Kent (Philadelphia, PA/Edison) single to left scored Herrera and Schmanek and tied the game at two.

Luzerne County took the lead for good, scoring twice in the bottom of the third.  The Trailblazers scored one of the runs on Lake's one-out single to right.  They added to its lead, scoring six runs (including four with two out) in the bottom of the fourth, sending 10 hitters to the plate.  Luzerne County scored three in the bottom of the fifth.

Manor scored its final run in the top of the sixth.  Herrera reached on a fielder's choice to second with two out and advanced to second on Lake's wild pitch.  Schmanek reached on a freshman Kyle Kowalski fielding error which allowed Herrera to score.  The Trailblazers completed its scoring with four runs and batted around in the bottom of the sixth.

Batting Leaders: Herrera scored twice and stole two bases.  Maddox-Kent knocked in two runs and contributed an outfield assist for the Blue Jays.

Concepcion went three-for-four (including two doubles), two runs scored, two RBI, and a walk.  Lake went two-for-four with three runs scored, two RBI, and a walk.  Freshman left fielder Jordan Yanac also went two-for-four and a run scored and RBI.  Freshman catcher Anthony Craig went two-for-three with three runs scored and two walks.  Sophomore shortstop Tyler Kolb scored three times, walked twice, and stole two bases.  Freshman left fielder Evel Cazado Mejia and freshman right fielder Michael Pinto knocked in two runs each for the Trailblazers.

Pitching Leaders: Lake threw a complete game victory, striking out nine (and walking three) and allowing three runs on three hits for Luzerne County.

Next Game: Manor plays the NJCAA Division III Union County College Owls (9-31 Overall, 4-23 Region XIX Division III) on Monday, May 7 in Cranford, New Jersey at 3:30 p.m.  The Owls won the previous matchup, 15-7, in eight innings, on Wednesday, April 11 in Cranford.  This will also be the final NJCAA Division III game of the season for both schools.
