MANOR LOSES FIRST GAME OF DOUBLEHEADER TO NATIONALLY-RANKED BERGEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE

PARAMUS, NJ—Bergen Community College (20-6 Overall, 14-5 NJCAA Region XIX Division III) scored in five of the six innings they batted as the fifth-ranked Bulldogs defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (1-9, 1-8), 30-2, in game one of a doubleheader.

Bergen sent 11 hitters to the plate in the first, scoring eight runs.  The Bulldogs sent 14 hitters to bat in the third, scoring nine runs.  Bergen scored once in fourth and twice in the fifth.  The Bulldogs scored 10 in the sixth, sending 15 batters to the plate.

The Blue Jays scored its runs in the sixth and seventh.  Freshman third baseman Sauriel Baez (Philadelphia, PA/Esperanza Charter) led off the top of the sixth with a home run to right off of freshman relief pitcher Julian Mena.  Freshman right fielder Samuel Pena (Philadelphia, PA/Liceo Vespertino Pedro MIR [DR]) led off the top of the seventh with a single to center off of freshman relief pitcher Kelvin Cruz.  Freshman relief pitcher Yorkis German (Philadelphia, PA/Kensington Health and Science) was hit by a pitch, moving Pena to second.  Freshman center fielder Abdur-Rauf Mujahid (Philadelphia, PA/Boys Latin) grounded out to Cruz, moving Pena to third and German to second with one out.  Freshman shortstop Jose Romero (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) grounded out to sophomore shortstop Gary Puente, scoring Pena with two out.

Batting Leaders: Pena went two-for-two with a run scored and a walk.  Mujahid walked twice for Manor.

Pitching Leaders: Freshman starting pitcher Trey Fracassini (2-0) pitched five innings, allowing one hit, and zero runs for Bergen.
