MEDIA, PA—Williamson College of the Trades (4-4) sophomore second baseman Tom Catenacci contributed two hits, two runs, and two RBI as the Mechanics defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (1-4) in a non-conference game, 9-7, in seven innings.
The Williamson College of the Trades baseball team is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
Manor opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning. After freshman shortstop Jose Romero (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) reached on a one-out Catenacci fielding error, freshman third baseman Sauriel Baez (Philadelphia, PA/Esperanza Charter) hit the Blue Jays' first home run school history, and gave Manor an early, 2-0 lead. Williamson scored in the bottom half of the first inning. Freshman left fielder Trevor Schmanek (Philadelphia, PA/St. Joseph's Prep) threw out junior third baseman Mike Naumann at home plate on a sacrifice fly attempt by junior right fielder C.J. Cardell. However, Catenacci scored Williamson's first run on a two-out wild pitch, but, freshman catcher Abimael Mercado (Philadelphia, PA/Juan Ponce De Leon [PR]) threw out junior catcher Corey Shupp trying to advance to third base on the play to end the inning.
The Mechanics batted around in the second inning, scoring four runs on three consecutive one-out plays. Naumann was hit by a pitch that scored junior first baseman DaVon Lewis. Catenacci's double to center scored senior left fielder Blaze Puzzangaria and Konstantinos Karros. Cardell's single to right scored Naumann. Lewis scored on a balk in the third inning. Williamson sent eight batters to the plate in the fifth inning, scoring three runs. Karros led off with a walk and scored on a one-out Manor fielding error. Freshman designated hitter Anthony Ardito walked, stole second, and scored on a freshman catcher Bryan Archambo one-out walk. Freshman shortstop Bobby Jones' two-out sacrifice fly scored Catenacci. The Mechanics led 9-2 after five innings.
The Blue Jays scored twice in the sixth off of Naumann, who moved from second base to relief pitcher. Mercado led off the inning with a walk. Freshman second baseman Nicholas Herrera's (Philadelphia, PA/Frankford) double to center moved Mercado to third base. Freshman Samuel Pena's (Philadelphia, PA/Liceo Vespertino Pedro MIR [DR]) one-out double to center scored Mercado and Herrera.
Manor sent eight batters to the plate in the seventh, scoring three times. Baez led off walk. Mercado advanced Baez to second on a one-out walk. Herrera's single loaded the bases. Schmanek single to right scored Baez and reloaded the bases. Pena's single to right scored Mercado, reloading the bases for a second time. Freshman third baseman Gilberto Reyes'
