MANOR COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATED BY NATIONALLY-RANKED NORTHAMPTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE

BETHLEHEM, PA—Northampton Community College (7-1) sophomore guard Tyese Fuller, sophomore forward Christian Johnson, and freshman guard CJ Miles scored 15 points each as the ninth-ranked National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Division III Spartans defeated United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I Manor College (1-4), 78-73.

The first half saw multiple ties and lead changes.  Down 13-11 with 14:47 left, Manor tied the game on freshman guard Larenzo Jackson's (Avenel, NJ/Colonia) layup off of his offensive rebound with 14:25 remaining.  This began a 12-2 run over the next 3:52 and the Blue Jays took its largest lead of the game (23-15) with 10:33 left on Jackson's layup.  After Manor took a 27-22 lead with 8:13 remaining on a Jackson made free throw, Northampton went on a 25-7 run to finish out the first half.  During this run, the Spartans took the lead for good (29-28) on a pair of Johnson made free throws with 5:55 remaining.  Northampton led 47-34 at halftime.  Miles led both teams with 14 points.  Junior guard Eddie Fortescue Jr. (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) paced the Blue Jays with 13 first half points.

Northampton maintained a double-digit for most of the first eight-plus minutes of the second half.  After the Spartans took a 58-44 lead with 13:53 left on Johnson's layup, with an assist by freshman guard Xavier Goodman, the Blue Jays answered with 20-8 run over the next 7:43.  Freshman forward Nissir Cook's (Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Academy Charter) three-point basket got Manor within single-digits (64-55) with 10:12 remaining.  The Blue Jays' run cumulated with a sophomore guard Sam McFarlane (Abington, PA/Abington) steal and layup and cut the deficit to two (66-64) with 6:10 remaining.  McFarlane's steal and three-point basketball with 0:56.3 left got Manor within 76-73.  The Blue Jays outscored the Spartans in the second half, 39-31.  Cook led both teams with 11 second-half points.

Statistical Leaders: Fortescue Jr. led Manor with 21 points.  Cook and Jackson scored 13 points each.  Freshman guard Cheikh Diange (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) paced the Blue Jays with seven rebounds.  Freshman guard Nasir Collins (Trenton, NJ/Nottingham) led Manor with four assists.

In addition to Fuller, Johnson, and Miles, sophomore guard Michael Marable scored 13 points for Northampton.  Fuller led the Spartans with 15 rebounds.  Freshman forward Keein Ward paced Northampton with three blocked shots.

Manor Versus Nationally-Ranked Teams (Since 2021-2022): Since joining the USCAA, the Blue Jays are 1-2 overall (0-1 on the road) versus Nationally-Ranked teams.

Manor Versus the NJCAA (Since 2021-2022): Since joining the USCAA, Manor is 3-2 overall (1-1 on the road) versus the NJCAA.

Manor Versus NJCAA Division III (Since 2008-2009): The Blue Jays are 22-13 overall (6-9 on the road) versus NJCAA Division III schools.

Season Series (Since 1994-1995): Manor leads the season series, 21-5 overall (8-5 on the road) since 1994-1995 (2001-2002 season unavailable).  Before this game, the Blue Jays previously played the Spartans on January 14, 2008 (90-74 Manor home win) when they were Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) members.  Manor last played Northampton on the road on November 17, 2007 (Northampton won 77-76).  The Blue Jays have lost three straight on the road.  They last defeated Northampton on the road, 90-86, on November 23, 2005.

Next Game: Manor travels to play USCAA Division II and Eastern States Athletic Conference member Williamson College of the Trades (5-1 through November 19) on Friday, December 2 at 5:00 p.m. in the Roadrunner Classic Semifinals, hosted by NJCAA Region XIX Division III Rowan College South Jersey-Gloucester in Sewell, New Jersey.  The Blue Jays are 6-1 overall (1-0 at neutral sites) versus the Mechanics, including six consecutive wins.  Manor swept Williamson during the 2021-2022 season.  The Blue Jays won 83-78 at Manor on November 30, 65-48 at Gloucester on December 3, and 45-33 at Williamson on February 17.
