MANOR COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL LOSES EASTERN STATES ATHLETIC CONFERENCE OPENER AT BUCKS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE

NEWTOWN, PA— United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II Bucks County Community College (4-2 overall, 2-0 Eastern States Athletic Conference) freshman guard Yasir Rowell led both teams with 36 points (including 24 in the second-half) as the Centurions defeated USCAA Division I Manor College (1-3, 0-1), 103-87.

After Bucks County freshman forward Avery Rice's field goal gave the Centurions an early lead (4-2) with 18:50 left in the first half, Manor responded scoring 10 straight points over the next 2:16, giving them its first of its largest lead of the game (12-4) on freshman forward Nissir Cook's (Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Academy Charter) basket and free throw with 16:34 left.  Junior guard Eddie Fortescue Jr.'s (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) basket gave the Blue Jays its second eight-point lead (14-6) of the game with 15:47 left.  After Cook's basket and free throw gave Manor a four-point lead (22-18) with 10:13 remaining, Bucks County answered going on a 12-2 run over the next 2:17 and gave them its largest lead of the first half (30-24) on freshman center Jaquis Heath's basket with 7:56 left.  The Blue Jays responded, scoring nine straight points over the next 2:07 and took a 33-30 lead on Fortescue Jr's free throw with 5:49 remaining.  Bucks County took the first-half lead for good on freshman guard Craig Stargell's three-point basket with 5:26 left.  This three-point basket was part of a 10-2 run over a 1:47 stretch and gave the Centurions a 40-35 lead with 4:02 remaining.  Bucks County led 45-39 at halftime.  The first half featured six ties and six lead changes.  Sophomore guard Colin Martin led both teams with 14 points.  Rowell added 12 points for the Centurions.  Fortescue Jr. led the Blue Jays with 10 first-half points.

Manor opened up the second half on a 11-2 run and took its first lead of the second half (50-47) on a sophomore guard Shyere Mayhue (Philadelphia, PA/People for People Charter) three-point basket with 16:31 left.  The first seven minutes of the second half saw three ties and three lead changes.  The Blue Jays took its final lead of the game (61-60) on Fortescue Jr.'s basket with 12:00 remaining.  Bucks County took the lead for good (62-61) on Martin's basket with 11:43 left.  Manor got as close as 67-65 sophomore guard Sam McFarlane's (Abington, PA/Abington) basket with 10:33 remaining.  The Centurions responded, scoring 15 straight points over the next 3:18.  Bucks County outscored Manor in the second half, 58-48.  In addition to Rowell's 24 points, Martin contributed 10 for the Centurions.  Freshman guard Nasir Collins (Trenton, NJ/Nottingham) led the Blue Jays with 12 second-half points.  Cook added 10.

Statistical Leaders: All of Manor's starters scored in double figures.  Collins led the Blue Jays with 20 points and six assists.  Cook scored 17 and paced the team with 13 rebounds.  Fortescue Jr. contributed 17 points and five assists.  Freshman guard Larenzo Jackson (Avenel, NJ/Colonia) scored 16 points and Mayhue added 13 for the Blue Jays.

In addition to Rowell, scored 24 points for Bucks County.  Freshman center Jaden Fogg contributed 14 and sophomore guard Joseph Brusha added 10 for the Centurions.

Conference Openers (Since 1994-1995): The Blue Jays are 13-14 overall (5 12 on the road) in conference openers since 1994-1995.  Manor previously won on its conference opener on the road on November 14, 2017 at Mercer County Community College (82-81) when they were National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Division II members.  Please note that the 2001-2002 season is unavailable.

Season Series (Since 1994-1995): Manor leads the season series, 17-8 overall (8-5 on the road) since 1994-1995 (2001-2002 season unavailable).  The Blue Jays have lost three straight contests overall and five of the last six versus the Centurions.  Manor have lost four consecutive road match-ups at Bucks County.  The Blue Jays previously won on the road in this series on January 28, 2008 (78-64) when they were Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) members.

Next Game: Manor travels to play Nationally-Ranked National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Division III Northampton Community College (5-1 through November 19) on Tuesday, November 29 at 7:00 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  The Spartans are currently ranked 13th in the latest NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Rankings (through November 14).  Northampton finished the 2021-2022 season 19-5 overall (8-3 Region XIX Division III, 6-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference) and reached the NJCAA Region XIX Division III Postseason Tournament Semifinals.  Manor leads the season series, 21-4 overall (8-4 on the road) since 1994-1995 (2001-2002 season unavailable).  The Blue Jays previously played the Spartans on January 14, 2008 (90-74 Manor home win) when they were EPCC members.  Manor last played Northampton on the road on November 17, 2007 (Northampton won 77-76).
