MANOR COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS ELECTRIC CITY CLASSIC CONSOLATION GAME VERSUS THE KING’S COLLEGE (NEW YORK)

SCRANTON, PA—United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I Manor College (1-1) freshman guard Nasir Collins (Trenton, NJ/Nottingham) led his team with 25 points and 13 rebounds as the Blue Jays defeated The King's College (New York) Lions (1-2), 71-55, in the Electric City Classic Consolation Game, hosted by National College Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Marywood University.

After three ties and two lead changes, Manor took the lead for good (8-6) on Collins' three-point basket with an assist from sophomore guard Sam McFarlane (Abington, PA/Abington) with 16:40 left in the first half.  The Blue Jays opened up its first double-digit lead (24-13) on freshman guard Larenzo Jackson's (Avenel, NJ/Colonia) two free throws with 10:36 remaining.  Collins' layup with an assist from Jackson with 6:37 left gave Manor its largest lead of the half (32-17).  The Blue Jays also had another 15-point lead (34-19) with 5:10 remaining on Collins' layup.   Manor led 37-29 at halftime.  Collins led the Blue Jays with 11 points.  Lions' senior guard Mali Binen led both teams with 13 points.

King's (New York) got within five points three times within the first four minutes in the second half.  Manor opened up a double-digit lead for good (53-42) on sophomore Shyere Mayhue's (Philadelphia, PA/People for People Charter) jump shot with 11:07 left.  Mayhue's jump shot began an 18-2 run over the next 3:30 that cumulated with a Collins' jump shot with 7:37 remaining and gave the Blue Jays its largest lead at the time (62-44).  Manor got its largest lead of the game (71-50) on Jackson's jump shot with 2:18 left.  The Blue Jays outscored the Lions in the second half, 34-26.  Collins led both teams with 14 second-half points.  Binen led King's (New York) with 13 points and freshman guard Michael Perez added 11.

The victory also broke a three-game losing streak, dating back last season.  Manor last won on February 17, 2022 at Williamson College of the Trades.

Statistical Leaders: In addition to Collins' 25 points, three other Manor starters also scored in double figures.  Jackson and Mayhue scored 12 points each.  Jackson also led the Blue Jays in assists and both teams in steals.  McFarlane contributed 11 points.

Binen led both teams with 26 points and Perez added 14 for King's (New York).  Perez also led the Lions with 13 rebounds and three blocked shots and shared the team lead in assists.

Manor in In-Season Tournaments (Since 2006-2007): The Blue Jays are 9-9 overall (7-6 at neutral sites) in nine In-Season Tournaments.  The victory broke Manor's two-game In-Season Tournament losing streak.  The Blue Jays previously won an In-Season Tournament game on December 3, 2021, defeating USCAA Division II Williamson College of the Trades, 65-48, in the Roadrunner Classic at the Rowan College South Jersey (RCSJ)-Gloucester in Sewell, New Jersey.  The Blue Jays are 2-1 in In-Season Tournament Consolation Games since 2006-2007.

Next Game: Manor will travel to play NCAA Division III and Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) member Cairn University (0-2) on Tuesday, November 15 at 8:00 p.m. in Langhorne, Pennsylvania.  The Blue Jays previously played and won at Cairn, 72-66, on November 16, 1996.  Manor was then in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC).  Cairn was then known as Philadelphia College of Bible (it was later changed to Philadelphia Biblical University in 2000 and Cairn in 2012) and were National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) members.  The Highlanders were 2022 CSAC Postseason Tournament Semifinalists.
