MANOR COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER LOSES TO BERKELEY COLLEGE (NEW JERSEY)

JENKINTOWN, PA— United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II Berkeley College (New Jersey) (6-0-0) scored three second-half goals and its defense did not allow a second-half shot as they defeated the Manor College Blue Jays (1-1-0), 4-1.

The Knights scored first off of a junior midfielder/forward Marcus Hidalgo direct kick outside of the 18-yard line.  His shot on goal was rebounded by sophomore defenseman Suad Lukovic and kicked into the right-hand corner of the net (33:32).  Manor tied the match when junior forward Abubakkar Bangura's (Philadelphia, PA/John Bartram) pass went to junior midfielder Eddie Fortescue Jr. (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon).  Fortescue, Jr.'s shot went off of the left post and into net for his third goal of the season (42:43).  The halftime score was tied at one.  Berkeley outshot Manor, 12 (seven on goal) to seven (three on goal).

Berkeley scored two second-half goals in three minutes.  Freshman midfielder/forward Erson Gerbeshi's pass went to senior left winger Esteban Pedrueza around the 18.  Pedtueza's shot went into the right-hand corner of the net for the game-winning goal (64:03).  The Knights scored just over three minutes later when freshman forward Hector Castro's pass around the 18 went to Hidalgo.  Hidalgo's shot went into the right-hand corner of the net (67:05).  Berkeley finished the scoring on a Gerbeshi penalty kick after he was fouled inside the 18 (78:01).  The Knights scored all three second-half goals and had all 16 second-half shots (10 on goal)..  Berkeley outshot Manor 28 (16 on goal) to seven (three on goal) for the match.

Dempster Reaches Head Coaching Milestone:  Manor Head Men's Soccer Coach John Dempster coached in his 175th match.  His first match as a Head Coach was a 1-1 home overtime tie versus National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Division III Montgomery County Community College on August 31, 2010.  He has coached 70 NJCAA Division III, 93 NJCAA Division I, and 12 USCAA Division I matches.

Series Record: Berkeley leads the season series 2-0-0 (both matches were played at Manor).

Next Match:  Manor travels to USCAA Division II and Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) member Pennsylvania State University-Lehigh Valley (3-1-1 as of September 14) in Center Valley, Pennsylvania at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20.  The Blue Jays lead the season series 4-0-0 (2-0-0 on the road).  Manor won the previous overall match-up, 6-1, on September 11, 2021.  The Blue Jays won in its previous visit to the Nittany Lions, 5-1, on September 18, 2019.

Next Home Match: Manor hosts National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III and Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) member University of Valley Forge (0-2-0 as of September 14) on Thursday, September 22 at 3:30 p.m. in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.  This the first match-up between the Blue Jays and Patriots.
