MANOR COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER ROUTS PENN STATE-HAZLETON IN ITS SEASON AND HOME OPENER

JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (1-0-0) junior midfielder Eddie Fortescue Jr. (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) registered two goals and an assist as the Blue Jays defeated Division II Pennsylvania State University-Hazleton (0-2-0), 6-1, in its season and home opener.

Manor scored first on a junior midfielder John Levy (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Towne Charter) penalty kick after he was fouled inside the 18-yard line (15:14).  Hazelton tied the match on sophomore Ethan Hendricks' penalty kick after he was fouled inside the 18 (37:33).  The match was tied at one halftime.  The Blue Jays outshot the Nittany Lions, 22 (17 on goal) to six (all on goal).

Manor pulled away from Lehigh Valley with three second-half goals in less than four minutes.  The Blue Jays scored the game-winning goal when Levy's corner kick went to Fortescue Jr.  Fortescue Jr.'s head shot went into the left side of the net for his first goal of the season (56:21).  Manor scored over two minutes later when sophomore defenseman Mamadou Ba's (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Learning Center) pass from the Blue Jays' side of the field went to freshman midfielder/defenseman Saw Htoo (Philadelphia, PA/Mastery Charter) on the Nittany Lion side.  Htoo's pass went to freshman forward Michael Varallo (Philadelphia, PA/String Theory), who kicked it into the net for his first collegiate goal (58:32).  Manor scored less than 90 seconds later when junior midfielder Maximo Chavez' (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) pass from midfield went to Fortescue Jr.  Fortescue Jr.'s shot went into the right side of the net for his second goal of the match (59:51).  The Blue Jays finished the scoring when Fortescue Jr.'s pass went to Chavez.  Chavez' head shot went into the left side of the net (65:41).  Manor scored all four second-half goals.  The Blue Jays outshot the Nittany Lions in the second half, 18 (12 on goal) to six (three on goal), and 40 (29 on goal) to 12 (six on goal) for the match.

Series Record: This is the first match-up between the two schools.

Home Openers (Since 2008): The Blue Jays are 7-6-1 in home openers and have won three of the last four.

Next Match:  Manor hosts USCAA Division II Berkeley College (New Jersey) (5-0-0) in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14.  Berkeley won the inaugural match-up, 3-2, in double overtime, on September 15, 2021.
