MANOR COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS IN OVERTIME ON LEONARD’S THREE-POINTER VERSUS MERCER COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE

WEST WINDSOR, NJ—Manor College (9-5) sophomore guard Isaiah Leonard's (Philadelphia, PA/Motivation) three-point basket with 5.5 seconds left in overtime lifted the Blue Jays to a 81-79 victory over the Mercer County Community College Vikings (2-20).

The Blue Jays led 36-35 at halftime.  Freshman guard Gavin Shiver led both teams with 14 points.  Sophomore forward Rahmaad Dejarentte (Chester, PA/STEM Academy) led Manor with 10 first-half points. 

Leonard's free throw with under a minute left in regulation tied the game at 72. Mercer County outscored Manor in the second half, 37-36.  Dejarnette led both teams with 17 points.  Freshman guard/forward Nyzhir Brown led the Vikings with 12 second-half points.

Mercer County took the lead (79-78) with 15.7 seconds left in overtime on Brown's layup and free throw.  Following a Manor time out, Leonard sank the go-ahead three-pointer with 5.5 remaining.  Freshman guard Paulo Villalona missed an attempt at the buzzer.  The Blue Jays outscored the Vikings in overtime, 9-7.  Leonard led both teams, scoring seven of Manor's nine points.  Overall, there were 13 lead changes and five ties.

This was Manor's first win at Mercer County since November 14, 2017 (82-81).

This was also the Blue Jays' first overtime game and victory as a USCAA member.

Individual Statistical Leaders: Dejarnette led both teams with 27 points and 11 rebounds.  Leonard scored 16 points and paced both teams with four steals.  Sophomore forward Anthony Floyd (Philadelphia, PA/Engineering and Science) led both benches with 10 points and shared the team lead with Dejarnette with four assists.

Brown led Mercer County with 22 points.  Shiver added 16 points.  Freshman guard/forward Nymere Whitaker contributed 12 points and led the Vikings with nine rebounds and three steals.  Villalona scored 12 points.  Sophomore forward James Breustle came off the bench and led both teams with six assists.

Manor Leading at Halftime: The Blue Jays are 7-1 overall (1-1 on the road and 2-0 at neutral sites) this season when leading at halftime.

Manor in Overtime Games (Since 2008-2009): Manor has won three straight overtime games dating back to February 19, 2019 (Manor, 92-91, in double overtime at the Community College of Philadelphia).  They have won four straight road overtime contests going back to November 20, 2018 (Manor, 102-94, in double overtime at Delaware Technical Community College).  Overall, the Blue Jays have won five its last seven overtime games dating back to December 19, 2017 (Manor, 108-107, in triple overtime versus Raritan Valley Community College).

Season Series (Since 2008-2009): The Blue Jays are 14-12 overall (6-8 on the road) versus the Vikings.

Manor versus Region XIX Division II Schools (Since 2008-2009): Manor is 84-101 (29-67 on the road and neutral sites) versus Region XIX Division II schools since the 2008-2009 season.

Next Game: Manor host the USCAA Division II Central Pennsylvania College Knights (5-12 overall, 2-1 Eastern States Athletic Conference as of February 8) 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16 in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.  The Blue Jays are 24-2 overall (12-0 at home) versus the Knights since the 1994-1995 season (not including the 2001-2002 season).  The Knights won the previous match-up, 116-100, on November 16, 2021.  Manor won the previous home match-up, 85-51, on November 19, 2007 when the Blue Jays were Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) members.

Next Road Game: Manor play the USCAA Division II Williamson College of the Trades (4-8 overall, 0-2 ESAC as of February 8) 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17 in Media, Pennsylvania.  This game is a make-up from Thursday, January 25.  The Blue Jays are 6-0 overall (3-0 on the road) versus the Mechanics.  The Blue Jays won the previous match-up, 65-48, on December 3, 2021, in the Roadrunner Classic Semifinals (hosted by Rowan College South Jersey-Gloucester) in Sewell, New Jersey.  Manor won the previous road match-up in Media Pennsylvania, 62-45, on November 11, 2014 when the Blue Jays were NJCAA members.
