MANOR COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS IN ITS USCAA DEBUT AT BRYN ATHYN COLLEGE

BRYN ATHYN, PA—Manor College (1-0) sophomore guard Isaiah Leonard (Philadelphia, PA/Motivation) led both teams with 20 points as the Blue Jays defeated the NCAA Division III Bryn Athyn College Lions (0-1), 74-57, in its USCAA debut. 

The Blue Jays opened up a 6-0 in the first 2:33 of the game.  The Lions responded and took an early lead with nine straight points in the next 1:30 on three three-point baskets.  Both teams exchanged baskets until Manor took the lead for good (15-14) on a sophomore guard Eddie Fortescue Jr. (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) basket with an assist by sophomore forward Rahmaad Dejarnette (Philadelphia, PA/STEM Academy) with 12:35 left in the first half.  The Blue Jays scored 10 straight points during the next 2:44.  Following a Bryn Athyn basket, Manor opened its largest lead of the first half (27-16) on a Leonard basket with 8:29 remaining.  The Blue Jays went on a 14-2 run during a 4:06 stretch (12:35 to 8:29).  Manor took two other 11-point leads in the first half (30-19 and 34-23).  The Blue Jays led 34-23 at half.

Manor opened up its largest lead of the game (40-24) with 18:36 left on a sophomore guard Malik Clark (Philadelphia, PA/ Boys' Latin) layup in the paint and free throw.  After Leonard's three-point basket (46-31) with 16:05 remaining, Bryn Athyn closed the gap with an 18-6 run in a 7:46 stretch to five points (54-49) with 8:19 remaining on a junior guard Juleton Jean Louis steal and layup.  The Blue Jays answered the Lions' run on its next possession with a Fortescue Jr. three-point basket and Leonard assist (8:05).  This began a 12-2 run over the next 2:00 and Manor opened up a 64-51 lead with 6:05 left on Leonard's jumper. The Lions never got closer than eight points (57-49, 64-56, and 66-58).  The Blue Jays finished the final 8:05 on a 20-9 run.

Individual Statistical Leaders: In addition to Leonard, Fortescue Jr. led both benches with 17 points.  Freshman guardXavier Edwards (Norristown, PA/Norristown) scored 12 and Clark added 10 points.  Dejarnette paced the Blue Jays with 14 rebounds, four assists, and three blocked shots.

Junior forward Jaryn McCann led Bryn Athyn with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and five steals.  Freshman guard Jamal Cannady Jr. added 13 points and paced both teams with five assists.

Manor in Season Openers:  The Blue Jays are 14-12 overall (7-7 on the road) in season openers since the 1994-1995 season (not including the 2001-2002 season).  The last time Manor won its season opener on the road on November 1, 2014 (97-89 versus Region XX Division II Cecil College). 

Mahon Makes Manor History: Blue Jays first-year Head Coach Leo Mahon became the second in school history to coach a Men's and Women's Basketball in a regular season games. 

Season Series: This is the first game in the series between the two schools.

Next Game: Manor travels to USCAA Division II Bucks County Community College (1-3 Overall) 7:00 p.m. Thursday November 11, 2021 in Newtown, Pennsylvania.  The Blue Jays are 17-5 overall (8-3 on the road) versus the Centurions since the 1994-1995 season (not including the 2001-2002 season).  Manor split its 2019-2020 games versus Bucks County.  The Centurions won the first match-up, 67-66, on November 26, 2019, in Newtown.  The Blue Jays won the previous contest, 89-80, on February 8, 2020, in Jenkintown.  This the Eastern States Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
